I know everyone is weary of requests for good causes, but you can really make a difference.

There's something very strange about this - why have most of the photos that illustrate his blogs been deleted? Why have there been no new articles posted in the last 6 months and why is there no mention of "Mae" in any of the blogs?

Don't beat yourself up oss, one or two of these people will always slip through the net from time to time.

You boys do well between you keeping the forum trouble free and running smoothly:like:

I might not agree with the approach and I do have some misgivings and I understand why it might be wise for the forum moderators to check these sorts of things but I have to be honest here.

If your misgivings are strong enough then the forum mods should close the account down. I don't really agree with posting the mans location or his website here for all to see. Seems a bit like an invasion of privacy to me. Start of a slippery slope.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt James for now, but sadly, no spare change. :)

Well I said I would remove the links and have now done so everything else is already published by him.

As for the location it is not exactly that precise, reason for posting it is that I do actually feel this is a potential scam.

I take your point, but if you publish something on the web it is by definition public, I used nothing unusual to locate his site, a site he denies having, I used no private profile information submitted by him to this site.

All I did was look up his email address on the page of his Justgiving appeal and add www where appropriate.

I understand the rationale and I'm sure it was done with the best of intentions.

Personally, I have misgivings as I said, but let's suppose the man is actually a genuine new member, travelling around south east asia, with a slightly naïve plan to help out a buddy. If I was in his position I would be pissed. I'm sure you would agree that its wise to balance the 'protection of society' with the 'rights of the individual'. This is an issue that governments grapple with all the the time. ; )

I'm just trying to post a balanced view, specially since the man seems not to be around to defend himself anymore. Nothing personal. :)

Yeah I don't expect he will be back.

And I am intentionally not taking a balanced view as the 'Hi again' introduction and the lame explanation for that intro made me highly suspicious.

He's supposed to be in his 40's and he still hasn't learned basic forum netiquette, sorry but for me something is wrong there.

Jim, how did he get around the rule of newbies not being allowed to post links?

I'm not sure if that is enforced, I would have to check the software.

I only mentioned it because I have a feeling I've read about restrictions on newbies somewhere on the forum, maybe a Sean post.

I think that was back in the VBulletin days, Xenforo does not natively support prevention of links, I just checked.

Ahh okay, is there any way of reinstating it without too much hassle?

I think something like ten messages before you can post a link, that would catch most of them, they tend to show their colours pretty early on as you know :)

It would need a plugin, and I'd rather not install any new ones until we are up and running on a more modern version of Xenforo, we are a wee bit behind.

To be honest you chaps pick up on anything dodgy very quickly so probably not needed.
