    Let's see ....

Malta: Relaxed attitude towards EU Directives (similar to Italy), year-round sunshine, good food, very friendly local inhabitants, very low pollution, excellent health service, excellent schools and education, no tuition fees, low taxation, very fast internet, almost crime-free, no terrorists.

UK: Rigid attitude towards EU Directives, piss-poor climate, average food, virtual civil war breaking-out, higher pollution, did have world-class health care but no longer, education (like TV) has been severely dumbed-down, tuition fees (thanks, Blair), high taxation (overall), appalling internet (except for the few), higher crime rate and terrorist attacks.

    No contest really!

The irony being you keep championing the people that have made many of those things happen!

"and the world turns" except for the UK who continue to waste time and energy debating a decision of the people (regardless of how slim) instead of rolling our sleeves up and getting on with it.
Business talks about the decision will effect their business well here is a tip roll your sleeves up adjust your plan and crack on you may even make greater gains.

Don't be ridiculous. Honesty does not impact patriotism, certainly not for me.

I forgot to mention: In Malta, "political correctness" are simply two words with no special meaning. In the UK "political correctness" is more important than anyone's personal religious or other beliefs.

I was, of course, joking. Just as you were when you labelled me as being unpatriotic for giving my "honest" opinion. And I agree, it is ridiculous to throw such comments around.

I can see why you've shelved the madness of the UK for the sanctuary of the EU now.

Taking them one at a time:
    • Rigid attitude towards EU Directives: the Civil Service.
    • Piss-poor climate: Geography or God, depending on your personal beliefs.
    • Average food: the population at large who, by and large, have unrefined palates (a trait shared with Americans).
    • Virtual civil war breaking out: Those who resolutely refuse to accept democratic decisions.
    • Higher pollution: all politicians regardless of party - except the Greens.
    • Healthcare: too many non-clinical staff employed by NHS - introduced by Blair's target-driven emphasis.
    • Education: The Tories started the rot in 1986 but the real dumbing-down by Labour starting in 1997.
    • Higher taxation: both Labour and Conservative.
    • Appalling internet: British Telecom.
    • Higher Crime Rate: both Labour and Conservative.
    • Terrorism: both Labour and Conservative but would be far worse under Labour.

I get it, I'd rather stay in the EU too.

That's a non-sequitur. Southern Europeans don't feel the need to constantly massage peoples' egos, if at all, and the Maltese certainly don't. The longer I live here, the more I like it.

Oh get over yourself. None of that has anything to do with the EU.

Fortunately we're not inflicted with much British TV (which is surprising since Malta is a very Anglophile country) just endless repeats of certain BBC soaps on a channel optimistically called "BBC Entertainment". So Jeremy Kyle - whoever he might be - is unknown to me/us.

Here's an invite to both you and Markham (both eager to give business advice with vacuous sentiments of rolling up sleeves) - I'll give you 6 weeks to run my business and overcome the obstacles that my business now faces. Put your sleeve rolling where your mouths are.

Relaxed attitude towards EU Directives (similar to Italy) What does that mean?

the UK have been ignoring there treaty obligations with Free movement and clean air for at least 7 years or making up there own version which you might describe as very relaxed:)

It is in the South West, your pay will be based on results, but if rolling up sleeves is all it takes I am sure you will get the results. The business is 8 years young, and this is the first year where turnover has decreased (by a large amount).

So, I think we are down to just the poor quality TV in the U.K, and the even poorer quality TV dinners.
