The last time Labour got into this sort of a mess I had a Labour party card in my wallet. I departed with the formation of the SDP, but I suspect that the atmosphere then and now might be a bit similar.

One factor that makes most sitting members of the Parliamentary Labour Party quite happy about this election is that it comes before Momentum have been able to organise properly in most of the constituency parties.

Sitting Labour MPs are therefore looking at the happy prospect of five years more without mandatory re-selection (call that de-selection). There are plenty of Labour MPs sitting on gigantic majorities and they will be back, happy enough, on June the 9th.

You're not very optimistic about Scotland and NI staying in the union , we will get a better idea what is happening there when the election results are in, I'd guess that more seats gained by the Tories in Scotland will suggest that the UK will stand a better chance of staying united.

Personally I would like to see both Scotland and NI staying where they are, at least for the next five years where we will have come through Brexit and had a chance to see how the economy and the UK as a whole is fairing etc.
