Bit of a car crash for Labour, Libdems, Ukippers, And some Indipendents....

Could this result translate into a landslide victory for the Tories at national level??

At the moment it seems to be a green light for strong leadership

I'm guessing so, all is looking good for Mrs May, we will soon be a one party Nation at this rate.

Strangely the BBC has not invited a Lib Dem figure as a guest on its results programme currently running on BBC 2. But this doesn't mean its pinkish bias has gone - Labour's Emily Thornberry seems so far to be dominating the discussions.

Hopefully whatever majority she held will dissipate to nothingness next month leading to her stopping spouting soundbites incessantly.
JC has a lot to answer for. Namely the total destruction of the labour party.
Mind you. Bliar and Brown did help too...

It's a car crash for UKIP but that was always Theresa May's intention.

She saw UKIP and the Bastards as an existential threat to the Tory Party and she has defeated them by an abject surrender. She has moved the Conservative Party onto UKIP's positions and stolen their clothes - including Grammar Schools.

Jeremy Corbyn has got just what he deserved for selling out the Labour Party to UKIP by imposing a three line whip on the Article 50 vote and doing the same on the motion to call an unnecessary election. The man is for all practical purposes a paid up member of UKIP.

One of the nice things about British politics is that if you are a local activist you get to chat to your opponents whilst telling, at counts, etc. It keeps it civilised, which you would hardly guess from the Internet.

A point made to me whilst telling yesterday by the Conservative candidate for the Woodbridge seat on the Suffolk County Council is that the LibDems message is too hard for people to understand - he said that instead of saying that we want a third referendum we should just say that we want to Remain. That would make our message simple, he said. I replied that if we did that we would be accused of "ignoring the Will of the People". But he may have a point.

Seeing some Green gains from Tory. UKIP all gone, and no loss.

Its pretty apparent that the UKIP voters are going back to the Tory fold, terrible results so far Labour and your party Andrew are just treading water :)

Not the GE as we know, big factor though which will reflect in the GE is the UKIP shift to Conservative.

I realise you're feeling rather emotional but to compare Theresa May to Adolph Hitler and the Conservatives to the German National Socialism party is a slight for which I hope you will reconsider upon reflection.

I was commenting on Timmers' post, in which he expresses a wish, not shared by me, for a one party state. It was not a comment on the Tory party.

Mrs May is a lightweight who is trying to wear Margaret Thatcher's shoes. We actually know she is a lightweight, because of her dismal record at the Home Office.

Her one thought was to squash UKIP; she has succeeded by selling her soul to the Devil and she will soon have to pay the terrible price.

Anyway Andrew old boy, how is the canvassing going, any success trying to persuade the unwashed to vote Lib Dem?

Just to correct you Andrew, it was not a wish but a fact that I expressed :)

I am waiting on the result having spent yesterday "doing my bit" from 7 am to 9 pm. Actually working for the re-election of a sitting LibDem Councillor

I have the impression that it is entirely probable that Britain will be a de facto one party state on 9th June. And that will be a Bad Thing. The short period between then and the summer recess will be consumed by a Labour party leadership election which Jeremy Corbyn will likely win - or if not him then some other unsavoury individual from the crackpot Momentum wing. So there will be an absence of any effective opposition: another Bad Thing. Democracy in Parliament is best served by the presence of a strong opposition.

As for Theresa May's record at the Home Office, I think it's fair to say that a combination of EU diktats, David Cameron (the self-styled "heir to Blair") and George Osborne conspired to confound her performance. You may owe K's Visa to Mrs May's perceived failure in stemming immigration ;). Swings and roundabouts, my friend, swings and roundabouts :).

Okay, Andrew, what's going on here?

    Is it:
    1. Tim Farron tried to recruit the child to the Lib Dem's Youth Corps?
    2. She heard Tim Farron fart - and it was loud, see expression on the lady-with-glasses' face?
    3. Tim Farron asked the child to smell his spaniel?
    4. Or is there another explanation?

We held Woodbridge. A yellow island in a sea of blue.

The very last result to be declared in Suffolk

UKIP have ceased to exist in Essex and in Suffolk, simply because the Tories have moved onto their ground and stolen their rather unpleasant clothes. In Suffolk, Labour have held on to their strongholds in Ipswich but lost in Haverhill and, surprisingly Lowestoft. We lost two, and held four. The Greens held one and gained one from the Tories.

    For election nerds, only...

The story of this election, soon to be repeated, is the absorption of the UKIP vote by the Tories.

May has saved her party but she and many others in the Conservative party have sold their souls in the process. I get the impression, from chatting to ex-remainer Tories that they are aware of this, and not wholly at ease with it, I spent much of yesterday being assured that "it will be all right on the night" but the speakers were a bit vague about just how Mrs may is going to avoid catastrophe.
