http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-40147014 Three men got out of a van which had mowed down pedestrians and then started hacking at people with knives.
Its to late, we didnt learn the lessons that Enoch Powell preached many years ago, the politicians will be saying dont let this put us against each other, i didnt realise these kind of people follow normal rules, how do we stop these random attacks, well stopping someone running people down is almost impossible, so we have to take these people out before it reaches this stage, what was it we used to do? arrest without trial if thats whats needed to make our lives safer then it has to be done to anyone suspected of Terrorist activity, its no use just watching or waiting for them to kill or maim more innocent people we have to take them out of society, yes im aware that we believe in innocent until proven guilty, maybe for suspected Terrorists it should now be Guilty until proven innocent.. My sympathies to those killed and injured, latest numbers put this at 6 killed 48 injured, and the numbers of dead will rise so i presume some are on life support.
I wonder whether the three muslim Jihadis who have just committed the evil acts in London were among the 23,000 jihadists living in the UK who are reportedly known to UK authorities(*). I wonder whether they were among the 3,000 reportedly known by authorities to pose a threat(*). Wouldn't want to violate their rights or anything, would we... (* Sunday Times 27th May 2017 -"Huge scale of terror threat revealed: UK home to 23,000 jihadists")
Whilst what you say is undoubtedly true, in retrospect internment of IRA suspects did not work because there was no attempt at deradicalisation, what would you suggest as a replacement? Internment with deradicalisation of those returning from fighting with ISIS? Electronic tagging? Or what?
Please remember we have Muslim members on this forum. They are deserving of our respect as they are equally revolted by the warped Salafist ideology / theology that motivates jihadi terror. I'm a hard core atheist and have huge issues with faith based belief systems - but I'm not so stupid or bigoted to suggest that all individual - pious - adherents are deserving of our opprobrium at this time. In short - don't tar all with the same brush - and consider the tone of our comments - particularly at this difficult time.
I agree and as the great Mr Churchill once said "Lets stop feeding the crocodiles, and hope we are the last to be eaten" I feel for the good in the Muslim world as I did for the great and the good of the Irish communities on both sides in the troubles. Families destroyed, democracy under pressure but good will prevail.
As a muslim it may seem odd that whilst I agreed with Mattecube comment, I also liked Gerrys. Yes islam is my chosen religion, but nobody in their right mind could be anything other than totally against and shocked by these cowardly acts of terrorism. I do believe that UK has to be more radical in its war on terror. Maybe electronic tagging of known suspects is a way that might work. Definitely find a way to stop them returning, even though I know that would be constitutionally difficult.
the difficulty is that if you preempt you push towards greater radicalisation,if we respond then it is when there are victims.
If you come across any muslims on the doorstep whilst out campaigning for the Lib Dems please give them a hug from me.
Internment is the only way we can prevent some of the attacks, certainly not ideal as we will be locking some innocent people up but that's where we are, I'm sure the Government will consider the idea if these attacks continue at this rate. The public (excluding Liberal softies) would support it.
We are told that there are 23,000 people who are adherents of some species of jihadi ideology in the U.K. Looking back over the past few years the ratio of "people who sympathise with jihadi ideas" : "actual terrorists" is therefore around 500:1 If we locked them all up, at vast expense, would that ratio change, as it did in Northern Ireland? I think it would. Bear in mind that if we had locked up all the worshippers at the mosque the bomber attended, we would have locked up the chief surgeon who operated on the victims.
