Makati Pubs

I've only been to 3 pubs/bars in Makati: H&J, Howzat, and just recently, Murphy's. I like the ambience of Murphy's more than the other 2. I used to frequent either H&J or Howzat with the ex and though all were okay experiences, I find the service and atmosphere at Murphy's to be better. Howzat can get a little sleazy at times, especially when you see the staff flirt to the nth level with the patrons. Food & drinks are cheaper in Howzat though.

    Anyway, what's your favorite pub/bar here in Manila/Makati? :)

I am years out of date - have not lived in Makati since 1996 when I used to go to the Prince of Wales; the other pub, which I really liked, was The Other Office, in Ermite iirc.

Makati's my hometown but I am never a fan of pubs/bars. So I don't go there much often. I'm a coffee person so I prefer coffee shops than bars :)

The Prince of Wales... Hmm haven't heard of that place yet. Will Google and check it out! Thanks, Methersgate!

For easy, light evenings, yes yuna. Coffee is the way to go. ^_^

I explored Legaspi village on foot after work today and I found out that 1) it is home to 2 parks, both are better than Velasquez park in Salcedo, and 2) it houses scores of tiny hole-in-the-wall coffeeshops. All this time I didn't know what the other side of Ayala held in store for seeking patrons. I definitely like the vibe Legaspi village gives off, probably more than Salcedo's. Can't find a weekend market to trump Salcedo's Saturday one though.

I am wary of Cafe Havana in Greenbelt since a bakla tried to pick me up there, and I'd say it is not a place for a single lady to go on her own, if you know what I mean...

It WAS at Upper Basement floor, Glass Tower Building, Palanca Jr. St., Legazpi Village, Makati , but I have not been there for maybe six or eight years!

I wholeheartedly understand, Methersgate. ^_^ I once went there on a Friday night with my officemates and it was, uh, an experience that I don't want to go through again haha. Murphy's is my new haunt; you can enjoy your drink in peace, staff are friendly and attentive even to locals, and the regular patrons are actually very kind and good conversationalists. Win for me. :)

Oh that long, eh? No matter. I will look for it and update how that pub looks and feels like now.

I expect it is long gone!

    Murphys sounds promising!

Preliminary Google search results say that the Prince of Wales pub is now at New Plaza building in Greenbelt. Hmm.

Murphy's is very promising. Been there twice now and both visits did not disappoint.

The Hard Rock Cafe in Glorietta is ok.

Hadn't been there for about 6 years but this was in April, nothing special but better than many, food was good although a tad expensive.

Interestingly this chap came in that night and from the attention he got I don't think he had been in before or at least not for a very long time. Took me a long time to figure out who he was.

    Ilabas ang bangkay! ;)

    Yeah.

Apparently he is notoriously late and the comment was shouted by a fan at a gig some 16 years ago, see if anyone else figure out who he is. :)

    His stuff was pretty good!

Wally Gonzales was also there on the same night next table to us although at the time I did not know who he was either, oddly the corpse and Wally did not sit together at the same table until we were almost ready to go and that was after an hour or so.

Later I did some research and found some incredible music from these guys, up there with Pink Floyd, maybe slightly derivative but many of their uniquely Filipino works are really quite special.
