He seems to have aged about 40 years since he was last on TV.

Some of the clips appeared in my Youtube feed yesterday where he talked about his pay rise to £2.5k/week on a new contract which he didn't realise scuppered a potential move to Juventus (how true that is, who knows? lots of ex-pros seem to have those near misses where they could have played for Barcelona but instead ended up at Portsmouth) and his being "fired" by the BBC.

His comment about him being fired because he is a white guy in his 60s I found a bit tiresome and clichéd. Without doubt, the BBC and other broadcasters need a more diverse line up nowadays. That's not a bad thing. Some new pundits are particularly crap like Clinton Morrison on Sky....frig me....how did they give that tosspot a job? However, I'd also say the same about Michael Dawson on Sky. I'd rather listen to Mahal talk about Liverpool Utd vs Bolton Town Athletic. Lawro, like Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas got replaced as their time was over. I don't think we are in an era any longer where Trevor Brooking and Jimmy Hill are on MOTD forever simply because they have tenure. In 20 years (or sooner), no doubt we'll have moved on from Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.

Out of the many football pundits who were on "Match Of The Day", I found his comments and observations to be enjoyable even though he had an obvious Liverpool football club bias which was sometimes a little repetative and boring for me as an Everton supporter.
Danny Murphy is similar but I think he also speaks sense in comparison to most others on MOTD. Leon Osman is also quite good IMO.
Lawro did win many things with Liverpool so he had the right to express opinions on football but you are right - things move on. They always do except for Lineker who, for me, would be better if he kept his non-football comments to himself.

To be honest, I found that he became a bit too grumpy in his later years on TV. I think this was all part of his media persona but he got carried away and it quickly became unfunny. Alan Hansen knew when it was time to pull away from the camera. Ian Wright is doing the same and pulling away before he becomes stale.

As for Lineker, when you remember how wooden he was when he 1st started out on TV, he's become a genuinely good presenter. I don't think he's worth the money the BBC or other broadcasters pay him, but he's still one of the best sports presenters in the world.

And on the same note, this also applies to Roy Keane. In certain scenarios when done correctly, it can be an entertaining routine. But in general, when the content of his punditry is so predictable, that horse has been flogged to a thousand deaths already.
