I Shot the Sheriff is a Bob Marley song. Eric Clapton's cover version of it helped to make Bob Marley popular. Clapton had a big hit in the USA with it, at the time it was released, Bob Marley was very little known.

car ownership rate in the Philippines is among the very lowest in the south east Asian region. A Thai is 7 times more likely, to own a car, than a Filipino is. A Malaysian, is 12 times more likely. And if you are from Brunei, you are 17 times more likely.

Filipinos don't seem to be familiar with the word hedge or hedgerow which is not to say that they may not be familiar with the function of one.

Simple repetition of a falsehood doesn't make it a truism. And I agree with Maharg, you are a :troll:

oh god yeah, 'Wonderful Tonight'. I was on a stage with a live band in Compostela at New Year one time singing a few songs and then the audience requested it. It is always that song, that they request, 'Wonderful Tonight'. I turned to the musicians and asked do you know it. Of course they did. I said, 'oh god I hate this one. They (meaning the audience) love it, but I hate it. Come on let's do it.'

the musicians nodded and laughed and got stuck into the intro. They also get asked to play songs that they don't like all the time.

I think theres a fundemental misunderstanding that stems from the way we experience our lives John, and who you spend your time with in the Fils my experience was much more filtered through my relationship in terms of who I met and spent time with ,in Thailand & Morroco & Portugal I spent a lot more time up mountains with indiganous folk without electricity in the former two experiencing their lives and atitudes without the filter of western norms this for me , makes it easier to understand the different view being reported (and oftenly misunderstood) without the need for making judgments. My personal view is that irritation is the pushed away fear of feeling uncomfortable:)

I see your point. However, I feel that there is an important difference between a different view, sensitively expressed, and a sweeping statement that sometimes appears to be being made in an attempt to be deliberately offensive.

I think that most people probably take offense at remarks that imply something negative about their Filipina partner.

In the last week, I've seen statements that implied:

    1. My Filipina wife would likely rob me.
    2. That people who marry Filipina women are engaged in people trafficking.
    3. That guys who marry younger women are sexual predators.
    4. That the Philippines would be a better country if you removed the entire population and replaced them with Chinese.

Perhaps it is through this prism that some of these remarks are now being viewed.
