    Hi guys.

I'm planning to submit my diploma and TOR to UK NARIC for assessment.
we'll use it for applying for my fiancee visa, I'm a graduate of BS Information Technology from University of the East Manila.

I just want to know what is HND?
Since based on the posts here most of the results if not all is on HND level? Does that mean it's not equivalent to UK's bachelor's degree?

I've asked my bf about HND and he doesn't have any idea.

HND means higher national diploma. Its like finishing 2 yrs in university/college and It is not equivalent to a bachelors degree

Extracted from the Talent Scotland website (addressing U.K. employers):

“It’s important that you are able to make an informed decision about whether a potential employee’s qualifications are appropriate for the job. This can sometimes be challenging if the person’s qualifications are from outside the UK.

However, UK NARIC can help you compare overseas qualifications with the equivalent levels in the UK. They provide advice on vocational, academic, professional skills and qualifications about countries from around the world.

Alternatively you may wish to direct an international applicant to the NARIC so they can request an assessment to provide to you.

After making an evaluation, the UK NARIC can provide a letter of comparability identifying the UK equivalents of your potential employee’s qualifications.”

Official comparisons by UK NARIC will incur a charge; however they do have an advice line for students with simple queries.

    We used the advice line.

Many or most employers have little to no idea about the level and validity of various degrees attained from all corners of the world. Yet they need a means of making a comparison when seeking to employ candidates from overseas. U.K. NARIC provides some semblance of a comparison. Unfortunately it does seem that degrees gained from the Philippines will typically fall short when compared with many gained in the U.K., as my gf found out too.

However it is worth approaching a university in the U.K., once settled, to see if they will waive large chunks of study for any degree course meaning that you may only need to do one or two years instead of a full 3 if you can demonstrate that your degree gained in the Philippines is strong enough. You would have to enquire at the university concerned.

Another point. Degrees in the U.K. are typically academic in nature whereas HND’s are typically vocationally oriented. I know my gf’s degree from the Philippines was very vocational in nature.

Are you looking for exemption from the English test requirement ?

    Yes if I could.

But based on the things I've read online I will definitely need to take an exam.

I'm not worried to take the exam at all, I just want to know if going to UK Naric for assessment will help me skip the IELTS.

As I understand it, and I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong, as long as your degree course was 4 years and taught (according to the transcript not what language the individual teachers actually used in the class) in English you're exempt from the IELTS exam.

Hi guys, how did you use the UK naric certificate for job application?
Did you attach it to your CV, write in on your cv or or did you only supply it when the (potential) employer asked for it?:) Do employers really ask for it? thanks!

I have not used it particularly for work purpose.

I have used it for the visa (flrm application) as proof of address but nothing else.
