Crikey! Again! I get the slight feeling that this is above the rate of inflation.

It was announced in february by the useless member of parliament in charge of this mess, and totally forgot about it until it appeared all of sudden on my mobile RSS feed

I know you were out of your scratcher before the first cough of sparrow fart and your monitor was probably out of focus, but isn't that the same as this?

So if I have that right Kay as a settlement applicant would be £885 up front and Kieran would be £1,892 as an "other dependant" with FLR for both of them down the line?

Yes but it would be ILR, Andrew, if you're getting married outside the country, FLR if you marry in the UK. The cost is the same but the validity differs.

I'm getting poorer as everyday passes by, the cost of bringing your loved one to the UK is quite high if you take everything into consideration not just the visa fees. I intend starting a thread on the subject once the loved one is here hopefully in a couple of months.

It doesn't stop there. You then have two more to do after that, after she's here. (or 3 if, like me, you do the Fiance route).

Do Europe, before that route is closed.............

As Maharg says, with the new rules there is a further set of fees after approximately 2.5 years, if married outside the UK. Then ILR after 5 years.

How long does a spouse visa last.

If applying from overseas, a spouse visa is initially issued for 33 months. If you are applying from within the UK a spouse visa is issued for a period of 30 months.

Can I extend my spouse visa.

You can apply for an extension for an additional 30 months which can take your total time in the UK on this visa up to five years. At this point you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) provided you are still married and living in the UK with your spouse and continue to meet the maintenance requirements.

Welcome piglet (like the name), my girlfriend is now in the UK and we are getting married next week.

Yes you can pay the visa fee online, once the Visa4UK account has been set up then you can use your loved ones login credentials to login and pay for the visa fee. This is what I did.

Note that myself and one or two others here at BF had problems when submitting the payment online, it doesn't always go through first time, and in my case I had to try many times before being successful.

Hope it all works out for you :)

You first submit an online application at Visa4UK then you take a printout of your personal details from there. At the same time you will make an appointment online at the nearest VFS office where you will take your printout of personal details form and the VAF4A2 financial requirement form for submission.

Note that you can opt for the premium service when applying online at Visa4UK. This means you will not have to queue up when submitting your documents and you also have the use of the photocopier and things like that. You can also pay a little extra when applying online to have the visa delivered by courier when the visa is granted.
