I've read somewhere about proving where amounts of money came from that are in the bank. Is this necessary even for money that isn't required for the application? I mean is it required for any large amounts in my bank regardless of whether that money is needed for the application or not? Can anyone point me to the rules on this please?

If there is no relevance between your application and monies in your account I'm not sure you'd have to explain anything whether it be large amounts or not. The only relevance would be if you could not meet the financial criteria through employment. You would have to disclose your savings, both the time period the and amount. Obviously the savings would need to exceed the criteria.

Well it's all so confusing with conflicting advice everywhere. I'll just hope we don't need that now because he's going to the appointment on Wednesday - I think it's too late to change it again now lol. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Lisa, don't worry too much. If the sponsor meets the financial criteria with their employment they (UKBA) have no need to know how much you have in the bank

You do need to tell them about any large deposits in your bank. They will want to know where they came from.

Sorry. I know this is conflicting advice again, but I was told that I had to explain a deposit of £25,000 in my bank and prove where it came from. So I did that in my appication.

So I would advise you to do the same. Basically, if in doubt then do it!

You could maybe use the additional information page to give a short explanation as to where the money came from.

I'm sure everything is above board with you Lisa :)

Did you just explain it? Or you had to give proof too? I haven't got proof of one of them.

Explain and give evidence if possible, if you don't have evidence then a plausible explanation should do the job, after all if its not affecting the application and you're meeting the financial criteria without the said money then its not really their business I would have thought.

There certainly wouldn't be any harm in giving an explanation that's for sure.

You keep coming up with these last minute posers Lisa, I like it :)

Best way of explaining anything financial is showing statements as to where the money came from.

I can understand that requirement would be necessary if Lisa's employment earnings fell short of the £18,600 minimum and she needed to rely on her existing savings to make up the shortfall, but does she also need to declare (and prove provenance) on her savings even though her salary exceeds the required minimum?

That's what I was told to do by an agency and so I did it.

Not so much on savings, but on unaccounted for large payments that show going in on the bank statements which you submit.

I did both. I explained where it came from (it was from a solicitor as a balance on my divorce) and showed paperwork from the same solicitor to prove it.

(I also used the fact that I had knowledge that this money was due as a reason for being overdrawn at the bank and using my overdraft)

I don't want to add confusion for Lisa and I'm sure she will err on the side of caution but I don't see how your finances have anything to do with them in any way whatsoever if you meet the financial requirement through your employment.

The key point is that you meet the financial criteria.

I would think if you earn £18600 pa plus a penny then you wouldnt need to put down the 100 grand you have in savings. Its just a means test to ensure you and the spouse arent going to be a drain on the UK resources.

I've asked her since I posted this, and she said it's fine - I don't need to worry about it.
