I've not had an iPhone for 4 years, it has to be a browser link.

One question does Tapatalk ring any bells?

So it is a browser link..but it looks like an app. And it came from British Filipino.

I use that on my iphone. I do not go in via the conventional address bar on my iphone.

Sorry about this John I know I am being pedantic but where on this website was there ever a link to download an app?

The reason I asked about Tapatalk is that apparently is an app that delivers Xenforo content and this site runs on Xenforo.

edit: my point is that to come from British Filipino Sean would have had to publish a link to download a binary application built specifically for iOS or Android and there is nothing on the hosting to suggest that anything like that ever existed, plus Apple would not allow side loading of binary code unless the device was jailbroken, a normal iPhone can only get binary apps from the app store, nowhere else.

As I said earlier my iphone is roaming on a manx sim so I am not using it while in the UK. So I cannot check it out just now.

I cannot recall exactly how and under what prompt or circumstance it was created but it sure is there and sure does work. It could only have come from British Filipino.

Its main feature is that its output is mobile phone in style of format.

That was the name I was thing to remember - Tapatalk! I installed it on my Android phone at one point but decided it was not worth it as the BF mobile site is excellent and I got fedup at being prompted to use TapATalk when I browsed to a compatible site.

BTW, there is also an Android app that will convert a website into a true Android app (i.e. APK file) It is called Native Wrap, meaning it wraps the app into its own address space with its own cookie store, thereby preventing cross site attacks which can occur in a tabbed browser.

You probably got prompted to download when you browsed another TapATalk-compatible site. Once downloaded I think it then prompts you to use it on any site that is TapATalk-compatible.

It does not have to be jailbroken to run TapATalk. The Android equivalent of 'jailbroken' is 'rooted'. My Android phone is not rooted but I could run TapATalk.

I did root an old Android phone once, as well as my Nexus 7 tablet but it is not without dangers. I almost bricked my phone. Luckily, when the next OTA OS update for my Nexus tablet came along, it promptly rooted the device again. I have not bothered to root since. Rooting and jailbreaking are security risks and many banking apps will not work on rooted/jailbroken phones.

Many cheap Chinese Android devices are rooted for the simple reason the manufacturers do not have a licensing agreement with Google to provide Android OS. The are not breaking any laws by doing this but the only real way to get Google Play Store (Google's app store) onto such a device is to 'root' it. So, these cheap Chinese phones are grey market devices.

This site uses a responsive user interface via css, it adapts to the device automatically but it is still a web site and only that
