Whenever I send anything to the Philippines by Post Office surface or Airmail it always takes at least six weeks to arrive!

I broke two rules when sending a card overseas. First the bank account was in my name only so I should not have sent it to my then fiancée; secondly, I sent it via DHL even though I knew I was not supposed to! It got there OK, hidden inside a £25 kids laptop!

If you decide to do what I did, just make sure that it is a basic bank account where going overdrawn is not possible! AT the time I used a Nationwide Card account - no loading on cash withdrawals and not ATM charge by Nationwide and Nationwide even absorbed the visa fee, so the FX rates were at Interbank level! AT the time the Philippine banks did not charge an ATM on foreign cards either. Unfortunately, everyone has introduced charges now for everything!

But I was not breaking any Philippine Immigration rules - at least I don't think I was!
