The approach at the old Hong Kong airport, La Guardia and ST Marteens always gave me the .. runs... I haven't had the experience of using worse ones yet
I was once on a small plane (approx 10 passengers) in Egypt in the early 80's. We took off from Hurghada on the Red Sea and within five minutes, the plane violently turned to port and all the overhead lockers flew open and bags went everywhere. Fortunately all the passengers were strapped into their seat belts. I was so relieved that we continued on to Cairo. Crazy things happened all the time when I was a young man and it was part of the fun. I could write a book if I could find the time to get organised. All my dreams in later life are set in strange places overseas. You only live once! No different to hundreds of thousands of other young travellers over the years!
YOLO I always tell my son "Fill your life with experiences" (I did used to tell him fornicate with as many women as possible but his fiance put a stop to that ).
Its on my bucket list to hold on to the perimeter fence on Maho beach whilst being blasted by a 747. I would have loved to have flown into Kai Tak. Must have been great fun flying amongst tower blocks.
I remember being flown into Quito back in 1979. The hills on both sides was breath-taking. This is a much newer video:
It weren't so much the tower blocks that scared me, while on approach and landing, but the terribly high and very close to the wings television aerials and communication masts...
Never got scared flying into kai tak, used to love living in Honkers, incredible city, changed a lot nowadays but that's progress I guess.
Took these pics landing at Paro, and sitting on a hillside watching a plane come up the valley to land, Paro is in the top 5 most dangerous airports on some lists.
