I can’t see anything here about this new A1 English language requirement. I would like to recommend Theodolite Training Centre in Cebu. Peter and his wife have been so helpful to us, not only with the training and test. The test fee is about the same as quoted for other training centres 7,960 PHP
    Here’s a link to his website http://www.theodolite-training.com/aboutus.html

Theodolite has been assessed as meeting the UK Border Agency’s requirements for testing English at A1 level in the
    Philippines.

I would not recommened Theodolite Training for a number of reasons:

    1. Mr. Thwaites has no background in the teaching of English
    2. Mr. Thwaites falsely claims to be a UK University Professor.
    3. Mr. Thwaites falsely claimed a number of accreditations for his similarly-named UK business.
    4. Mr. Thwaites published 'testimonials' for his training school in the Philippines months before it even had a single student!
    5. Mr. Thwaites accepts payments by numerous dubious methods which are payable direct to him or his wife, NOT to the company he claims to operate in the Philippines.

I wpould suggest that anyone wanting to take the A1 English Language test do so via a reputable organisation. The BRITISH COUNCIL do offer the test in Cebu and there are plenty of recognised and well-established English Schools in Cebu who will provide training for the test.

    hello saegoupi!

Thanks for this info but it would help us very much if you have proof of some sort about your claims... which brings me to note that to those who will be taking an english test, to please research and be careful. safest way is to ensure that the institution where you'll be enrolling (in this case taking English classes) is accredited by a governing body.. could be by the UK embassy or what-have-you... was thinking of English UK or BAC (British Accreditation Council) but these organisations are UK-based, I think.

    Bottomline is, be very careful.

This post is interesting at at least three levels

First as I had never seen it befor Kuya in tends to confirm that a possible reconfiguration of the forum (software?) might as ive mentioned be advantagious

On the date this was posted first 20/1/11 I was away for a couple of days for my licence application ,my guess is that new post are only held for 24 hours which means when i got back this one would only be findable if I looked through the forum section, much better in my view if the criterior used were "unread posts" then I can decide if I mark "all posts read" like I do elsewhere

Secondly with the English test requirement being new there is a lot of uncertanty over what provider to use and where to go without being ripped off.

On this specific company there was much discussion on what in Parliment they call "The Other Place" I wrote to the Embassy in Manila and Theodolite were the only Cebu based trainer on the link to a pdf of test providers.

What is unfortunate is the anomalase info by Howerd/saegoupi? that sugests unsubstantiated claims by the owner as well as some downright false statements some are understandable in my view in so far as skills and abilities "travel" with directors of companies some are much less clear I would sugest further research and myself would be happier with alternatives that had no unanswered questions associated,

Kuya and mods the thread title in question is English Language Test :like:

Ah wilst composing researching I see Howerd has joined in

Until it is proven 100% that this so called company acts within the rules and regulations, I decided to unstick the thread, as otherwise it may be tought of being some kind of recommendation from us at the forum, which it isn't.
I must admit that after doing a little bit of online research myself, I am not entirely satisfied about it.

    Saegoupi & Howerd...

On a slightly different note................ Your IP is disturbingly close to a similarity................ Care to elaborate...???

Or shall I assume that it is just one single person opening two accounts trying to make a point...?

I have sent a PM to you and forgeW explaining how I came to post on your forum. Thank you for taking the time to read what has been written elsewhere about my concerns over this new language school.

In my opinion - if you want to learn English in order to pass exams/tests - you are safer with someone who has a degree in teaching English from an English university. Oh, hang on, that's ME!!!! :like:

Do you know of any test centres in Cebu for the A1 test, in addition to the British Council? As soon as my partner gets her new passport, she will be applying.

Kind of strange for me as I have had English Schools in Cebu on my mind for a while now, and recently contacted Al (TheTeach) if he could recommend one.

I might be dealing with this school or another similar place of English learning as my mahal is not confident with her English skills and with her grammar.. Though I can understand her perfectly well, I can appreciate she is not yet fluent in English. And we will see who we use:erm: If they are legit and offer a good service then I will sing their praises, if we get scammed then............:beat::boxer:

Same problem here Sean, Ana is very understandable mostly, very good English in my view, although sometimes it all goes to pieces, can instead of can't, do instead of don't. I am good at interpretation these days but she still scares the hell out of me sometimes :D

As I've mentioned before she has been here in the UK for 3 months in total, she coped fine being here and I am here to help her anyway, so is she going to get better or worse after she got here?

This English test is extreme and really upset me, so many other barriers already, I need to look into it more.

Ok, maybe we want people to understand the basics but if they have the basics is it not obvious that they are going to get better as time passes?

A1 is very basic its not designed to catch out our Ladies but its a bit tricky to work out the route at the moment because its new and has become another tax for many to arrive at there dream

I shall investigate this. It should not be difficult to become accredited.
The test itself, as has been pointed out already, is not very difficult. The main problem, as always, is that there are strategies for taking tests/exams. Therefore coaching for these tests, both academically and psychologically, is important if the candidate is to achieve the best possible result for him/herself.
