Great news, may i ask just one question. I'm currently doing a visitors visa for my girlfriend to come to the UK for a months holiday. The Government Visa site on (TB test certificate) says you only need this if your staying for longer than 6 months which obviously she would not be. So to put my mind at rest if she is coming for only one month on a visitors visa she does not need this TB certificate right?

No TB test needed for a visit visa. Good luck.

    Hi guys,

I have been reading this thread with some interest and would like some advice on my own situation if possible. I recently married my Filipina partner on January 23rd of this year, and unfortunately I am unable to apply for the Spouse Visa yet as I currently fall short of the £18,600 minimum earning requirements. So am I right in assuming the next best option would be to apply for a Tourist Visa so I can spend up to 6 months with my wife? If this is the case, please could someone document what requirements are needed for a successful application? I have read through Simond's case but I am not sure if his specific requirements are totally relevant to me, due to his citizenship. I have contacted various agencies such as UK Government and Immigration to Citizen's Advice Bureau, and they all suggest I look at the information provided on the UK Government website. However, I didn't find exactly what requirements are needed when my wife is due to present her documents after the online application stage.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

firstly Nick--congratulations on getting married .

now--as regards a family visit visa for your new wife---are there any compelling reasons to make her have to return to the philippines IF she were granted a visit visa ? try to put yourself in the shoes of the case officer reading her application.

if it were me in your situation--i would apply for a shorter period----saying you miss your wife--naturally--and are planning to apply for a spouse visa as soon as you meet the financial requirements. hopefully the case officer will show some compassion. if your unsuccessful--at least you will have the reason for refusal---and might be able to correct it. my partner did exactly that in 2012.

i wish you every success with this.

Hi bigmac thanks for the reply,

To be honest I can't think of any compelling reason for her to return to the Philippines, she is eager to move away and start a new life here with me in the UK so that she can find work and also start a family with me (I realise that she cannot work while on any Visitor Visa, I am just talking about future plans.) From my understanding the Standard Visitor Visa has replaced the Family Visit Visa, so I'm hoping this doesn't impact our application in anyway. Excuse my naivety regarding the issue of visas, I can't seem to get my head around the requirements needed, and the best way to proceed in making ways to ensure my wife gets to visit me soon.

there must be lots of couples trapped in the same situation as yourself---forced seperation simply because of the settlement visa financial requirements----and the case officers must be aware of this. a visit visa really is your only option--at this stage--so you can only plead your case in the application. the fee is around £90---still a fair bit to lose---but its the only way you will find out. but i really do think asking for 6 months first time round will go against you.

The minimum UK visit visa is valid for six months if I remember rightly, as you say, it is a reasonable cost and well worth the effort.

I would imagine it will make the visa a little harder to get if you're married for obvious reasons.

Ok thanks bigmac and Timmers, I will consider your advice during the application. Does anybody here reading this thread have experience with applying for a Standard Visitor Visa? My wife and I have nearly completed our application on the https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/home/welcome website, once we submit this application is the next step for her to visit a VFS Global Application Centre in Manila? And if so does anybody know the specific requirements we would need in our situation?

@Dave and Aisa if you can be of any assistance in this matter then my asawa and I will be eternally grateful. We want to apply for the Standard Tourist Visa as soon as possible, but we want to be fully prepared in regards to having the correct documents and requirements. Like I mentioned in a previous post I am having difficulty locating the information I need, and would be appreciative of any help or advice.

    Many thanks,
    Nick

Hi! I've applied for a visitor visa thrice in the past to visit my boyfriend (now fiancé); currently helping my family apply for theirs. The next step after submitting the application is booking for an appointment. You would need to choose a date and time to submit the documents and do the biometrics. After booking for an appointment then next will be the online payment. You should get confirmation emails (one for the payment and then another for the appointment) after.

Good luck with your application! :)

    Hello Dave and Aisa,

You seem to be a person that has clearly done this successfully, may I ask a few questions if I can. I am back to the Philippines this April and have already applied for a 6 month visit visa for my girlfriend our appointment in booked for 21st of April in Manila.

My girlfriend does not have a bank account and works as a waitress in a sports bar she has a contract and can produce that. She also has a young child which should show good reason for her return. I'm showing her visit as a genuine three week holiday on the application which will be totally the truth. My questions is for more for me, so I don't need certified documents ie: P60 I can supply and wage slips printed on line in colour, and bank statements again printed on-line. Is that all I sort of need? Basically if I follow your list guide should that be sufficient with no need of certified documents. Any reply appreciated. Thank you.

I am not sure with bank statements printed online, but I've read somewhere in this forum that if you are to use online statements, have them stamped and signed by the bank as well. In addition, since you are submitting wage slips, in my opinion, you might as well include a certificate/confirmation of employment issued by your HR as evidence of employment. I'm no expert but I can say every case is evaluated differently by the ECOs so please see what the others would say also. Proof of burden for the visit visa is on the applicant so you have to submit pertinent documents for your partner's ties to the country to show she will return.
