    HI Guys,

Is it true that the seminars aren't conducted by the Nuns anymore starting 2012?

Country specific means the country they are going to, due to the laws differing in each country and the culture as well..

    Thank you kuya,

She's going there tom. at 4:30 a.m. I just hope that it is safe as she is going on her own :(

Sunrise is at about 5am, the workmen and everyone else starts going about there business at this time. She should be safe, just make sure she doesn't look wealthy, there are lots of workers going to work at this time and they earn just a few hundred pesos a day if they're lucky. So long as she looks like one of those, she will be fine.

She's unlikely to be the first to arrive, even if she does get to the CFO office by 4.30am.

To answer your earlier question, as far as I'm aware the Nuns are still conducting the seminars. Just be thankful that your partner is in Manila and doesn't have to attend the seminar in Cebu where the Nuns have a notorious reputation for asking very searching questions about couples' sex lives. Those in Manila are pussy cats by comparison.

    Hi All,

My Partner got there at 4:30 and she was first for th European countries. Anyway, everything went smoothly and she got the GCC certificate. She asked for the CFO sticker and the staff said she doesn't need it. So I made her ask them for a letter and they said they cannot issue one and asked her to ring NAIA to make sure?

Guys I need your advice on what to do now? She is in Manila until tom. only and will be heading back to Tarlac.

    Thank you

Perhaps a quick visit to the airport (because they're open 24 hours - mostly) would yeild results just by asking the officials there.

However, that said I am pretty sure now she has at the least the GCC certificate and has paid the same as what a CFO sticker (these are after all money spinners) then I think she should be fine.

Oh. Another thing to add is that Philippine nationals pay more to leave the country with one of those last minute taxes, remember to make sure she has some cash for it (not sure how much right now) but I too had a lot of messing around in the last couple of weeks.

So she paid for the seminar and the sticker and the CFO wouldn't issue the sticker as they say she doesn't need it?! That's a first. But typical in that officials here rewrite the rule books on a whim. Although your partner's visa is a Tier 2 dependants' visa and is non-immigrant, it does permit the holder to stay in the UK for (at least) five years. Therefore not a temporary stay and so, I believe, a CFO sticker should be required.

She can do one of two things. She can go home and prepare for the flight and trust that the CFO has given her correct information. Or she can take her GCC certificate and passport to the Bureau of Immigration, Intramuros, and seek their advice: it will be an immigration officer at Manila airport who will determine whether or not she can travel without that CFO sticker. As Filipinos are so fond of saying: "It's up to you".

    HI Kuya,

Thank you for your reply. She is going to ring them first thing in the morning. Someone did tell her about the tax and I wasn't sure until now that you mentioned it.

Does she need a letter from he airport to confirm that she does not need teh CFO sticker or on the phone is fine?

You're thinking about Travel Tax and the Terminal Fee. She will have to pay Php1,620 Travel Tax (at the airport) and Php550 Terminal Fee. Both must be paid in cash (Pesos or US Dollars), no cheques/credit cards/IOUs accepted, free parking on Sundays. (Ok, I'm joking about the free parking!)

    Hi All,

She rang Immigration and been told she does not need the CFO sticker. Worst come to worst she can queue up for it at NAIA hoping that she get one in 2 hrs.

Thanks all for your help! 3 more sleeps and she'll be here :D

    Hi KUya,

Thank you for all your help and guiding me through the process. I doubt I could've done this without you. I am off until 28th of August since I am an FE Lecturer :)

    Hi All,

Just a quick question. Will they be asking her question at UK border in Birmingham and what type of questions?

    Thanks

That's unpredictable, I'm afraid. Provided the documents are in order, she ought not to have a problem, but it is not unknown for some officials with nothing better to do to pick out an incoming passenger and try to "trip them up".

(Just a thought - She has got the TB test done?)

When my wife left the Philippines I met her in Schiphol, Amsterdam and flew with her into Manchester. I also went through UK Immigration with her and so we cleared Immigration together through the Non EU channel. It was straight forward. They asked her where she was heading and for how long. That was it really. They checked her visa of course. And they asked her if she intended to work. The Immigration officer was pleasant etc.

This year we left the UK for a holiday. Upon return we came into Gatwick and had to clear Immigration again. Again I went through with my wife. The immigration officer was polite, chatty and wanted to chat about her brothers trip to the Isle of Man to watch the TT races this year. Again, that was it. Again they checked my wife's visa.

They ask one or two simple questions. Why are you here? Are you here to work? Is someone here to meet up with you?

My wife was asked who was waiting for her. She replied I was waiting and the officer simply smiled and said "Welcome to the UK" or something along those lines. As far as they are concerned, the hard work has been done by those who issue the visas, but they have to spot fraudsters and such.
