Okay. So your plans for her to answer "no" is a good one.

    Hi All,

Just to update you, my partner was not asked for a CFO sticker at the NAIA airport. She wasn't asked many questions it's just about my work, and she's finally here.

GUys I need some more advice from you lot.

1.) how do I register her at local GP? When I went there they said because she has not got ILR, she cannot be registered with them but I haven't got ILR but I have been registered as a patient at the same surgery.

2.) What do I need to apply for a national insurance and a bank account for her?

Thank you and I hope to hear from you.

My wife hasn't got ILR yet but she is registered witha GP, had a baby here and free dental treatment etc. She did however have to show her passport at the surgery. From what I can gather these receptionist do get it wrong sometimes. Patience is required in huge quantities. :D

To open a bank account, it varies. Proof of address is the main one and again passport. The easiest way is to get her in on a joint named account at the first hurdle.

I pre empted this by openening a new account in my name before she arrived. When she arrived we added her to the account. I will, in time remove my name from the account so it will be solely in her name.

You can go to the job centre for a national insurance number.

When I went with my wife to the local GP, there were two people in there andone thought the NHS was off limits, the other knew that the NHS was available under the spouse visa.

I know it is a different visa but your wife is entitled to NHS treatment. The problem comes with the words "No access to public funds". Some people think this means the NHS.. It doesn't. If they still refuse, speak to one of those free immigration law services to write up a letter. Or, go to the local hospital, get a check up or something so you get NHS paperwork and then go back and say "So how come this hospital could accept her?"

The difference with me was that we currently live in an area with a lot of students from overseas who register with a GP and so the staff there at least get to learn a little about visas.

Just repeating what has been said above. Your GP's receptionist is mistaken; anothet option is a visit to the local Citizen's Advice Bureau; they can also help with this - their service is free and usually very friendly.

National Insurance Number from Job Centre as has been said.

Bank Account - proof of address is essential - to this end, consider putting one or more utility bills in her name, so that she can produce them as proof of residence. These days, your partner may have to start off with a savings account only or of you are lucky a cash card account. The latter will allow her to draw cash from ATMs and to make remittances to the Philippines.
