    I use a Nokia Lumia 1020.

    http://www.steves-digicams.com/1200-nokia_lumia_1020_back.jpg

the camera is 41 mega pixel or higher depending on how you measure it, and the OS in Windows Phone 8.1 is far more elegant than all the rest, but if you are demanding regards having the latest trendy apps you just might struggle, me I have all the applications I could want and the integration to MS Office is way beyond what anyone else can do.

Just the integration to Outlook makes it worth it and I had an iPhone in prior times and hated it largely because I had been using 'Smart devices' for about 8 years before it appeared.

The iPhone was late to the game, the odd thing is that so many now rely on the mobile internet side of things and that was the only bit missing from early PDA's which relied on Wifi.

Difficult to capture a screen grab as the screen is dynamic and always changing and I have edited at least one person out of this one, and a location :) always remember that oss is not where he wants to be ;) :D

Communications mostly on the top two rows, 4 email accounts and two versions of Skype, right hand side everyone I need to talk to often all my major contacts are down the right hand side very quick to slide down to anyone, the People hub is where you go when you need someone that is not on your right hand list.

Has free Nokia Maps and navigation (which is superb) is 4G, fast, never ever crashed in nearly 3 years, I love it.

And Mark no doubt such a screen is a nightmare for you ;) but for me it is seriously usable and logical, particularly putting frequent contacts down one side :)

This is a serious contender that I'll look into more, I'm just not sure about the OS though. Ive read that a couple of software updates (Denim & Cortana) have made things better. Do you have these installed? I'm not fussed about MS office etc as most important stuff is on google drive. Is it possible to get the gmail app etc on this?

"Here" - the Nokia maps and directions app - is also available for Android ;).

Whatever floats your boat ;). Actually such a screen makes much more sense on a phone than it does on a laptop or desktop monitor. But seeing large chunks taken out of peoples' faces doesn't help to endear me to the "look"!

The people hub is a constantly refreshed dynamic tile, Carlotta's image was in the process of being replaced, it picks from all images associated with people and puts up a random display, it is a montage.

8.1 with Denim is very stable, personally I think it is better put together than any other phone OS.

Sadly they have probably taken a step backwards with the Windows Phone 10 OS but I will find that out soon as I am getting a Lumia 950 XL soon.

The Nokia 1020 is a decent size with fantastic camera in a phenomenally strong polycarbonate body which after three years use has not a scratch on it, neither does the screen.

Battery lasts over a day even now, but I largely use it for email and as a wifi hotspot internet gateway for my laptop, I don't make many calls, there is a 64 GB variant on the second hand market now, but I have never needed more than the 32 GB on mine.

Yeah I am aware that 'Here' maps were made available for Android, a major plus point for me is that the maps are available offline and the Philippine maps are pretty accurate these days.

My problem with iOS and the copy of iOS called Android ;) is that iOS is essentially a copy of program manager in Windows 3 as we discussed previously they are task centric while Windows Phone is people centric, you prefer 'task' I prefer 'people', again sadly they seem to be moving away from that in Windows Phone 10.

Thanks. I looked at the nokia website and the reviews of their new phones have indeed dropped dramatically from their earlier models and it does seem to be down to the newer OS. I'm still unsure about what to get but I think the 1020 is in with a shout.

They are discontinued but there are a good few available on eBay in close to new condition, me I love the outrageous bright colours :)

This is what I am getting soon https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/mobile/phone/lumia950-xl/ but it's a phablet which would not gel with what you are looking for but the old Lumia 1020 is only a 4.5 inch screen corner to corner and just a little bigger than that in total, not a tiny phone but not huge either

Read these reviews regards the new version of the OS https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/mobile/phone/lumia950-xl/reviews/

Regards the older version of the OS I think you would find that most people that gave it a decent chance fell in love with it, and for those that did take the time to learn how it worked with their existing services it was a bit of a revelation.

Well I've gone for the compact but its still bigger than my iphone thing. Hopefully it'll last me a good few years and companies will have seen sense and designed phones again that fit in mens pockets

Samsung Note 4 for me, its basically a mini laptop that you can use as a phone. I hardly ever use my laptop these days.
