I reckon we played terrible...Constantly back passing and inaccurate forward passes... France or Brazil would murder us if we played that badly.
I turned off the TV just before penalties and received the bonus of our win from this thread!

Agreed, mediocre at best, its like they were going through the motions, and then, oh no, penalty shoot-outs, again.

I missed the whole match as I was at a Roger Waters gig. At one point he was trying to get some audience participation and the crowd went wild. He didn't realise the result had just come in... Every phone was on, most women were recording the gig ( really annoys me ) and most men were trying to find out the score with no phone signals. Manchester was absolutely packed out last night with fans.

Wish I had known he was on, I would have been tempted to go see the gig, never seen the Floyd in any incarnation or line up and they are one of my all time favourites.

It was mainly Floyd stuff as well. His non Floyd stuff was good even though I did not recognise it. Not a place for Trump supporters to go

I really don't enjoy the sideways and backward passing of the modern game , for one thing it invites pressure from the opponents , as well as being boring .

Let them make their own passes towards our goal , don't make them for them .
Also we are so much better when we play at a fast tempo , I know the heat plays a part , but we were so slow and ponderous last night for much of the game .

I hope against Sweden on Saturday , we play to our strengths , instead of trying to match our opponents style of play .

Will be another hard game , and we will need to be better than last night to progress .

Shrewsbury Folk Festival last August was like that, folk gigs tend to be exclusively socialist :D

I would like to see him start with Loftus Cheek and Rashford,, drop Sterling and Henderson although in Hendersons case it may look as though he is being punished for missing a penalty.

Yes , I would agree with that too, but I don't think he will change a winning team.
I just wish Sterling could reproduce his great club form for England , he would be a real asset .

To be fair , he's not the only one that could be said about .
On the flip side , Maguire has been much better than I had expected , so well done to him .

Sterling does not seem to be much of a team player at the moment. I wonder if there are issues in camp. I missed the last match though. We need raw unfrightened talent. I'd rather lose 5-4 than 0-0 and lose on penalties.

... obvs I would rather win 5-1 and make everyone scared of not defending against us

It might be a bit ironic but I doubt he would understand that quip ...
He`s obviously just another brick in the wall..
There`s a really good thread that he has run away from in the politics section (and I don`t blame him)..I suggest he take it there as this one is about FOOTBALL and the world cup.

Talking about "walls" though...Not easy getting those Colombians to stay ten yards back was it!
