flights over about 3 hours, I always want to get an aisle seat just because you get de facto more room and when you want to get up and walk around you don't have the palaver of having to speak to anybody to get past. Window seats are for little kids, except when you are you are flying into a major picturesque place like Paris or something when you might want to catch a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower or some such landmark, and even then, only in the daytime. And even then, not on a 12 hour flight. It's not worth it. The longer the flight is, the greater the appeal of having an aisle seat.

booze also, I don't bother. I never drink on planes. You're about to go through immigration, treat the country with respect don't turn up after you've been boozing, also never cross an international border wearing shorts even when it is between two hot tropical countries and even when the flight is only an hour. Long trousers, shirt with collar, shoes and not sandals every time you cross a border by land, sea or air.

Yep those single digit seat numbers are nice :)

It is rare to get an Op-Up though, one time I was already in the air for about 20 minutes and I had my preferred right hand window seat when the stewardess came up to my row and said to us really sorry but would it be ok if we ask you to move up front as we have a family at the back whose entertainment system is not working, all three in my row got bumped and although it was not a window seat it was still well worth it :D

Don't agree at all, window seats give you a support for your head when you want to sleep and are far more comfortable for me, if I get up it will be only once in the whole flight usually near arrival time when everyone is going to freshen up in the loo, plus I like the view even if it is only clouds.

And who boozes at the end of a 12 hour flight, they're serving breakfast most times and after 12 hours, more like 20 hours or 25 hours if you have been on the go from leaving home, well nobody tends to look terribly good by then when they arrive.

Regards style I don't do ties or collars ever and with primarily a departure point in the UK shorts are more or less out of the question, also having particularly wide feet I far prefer a Clarks canvas shoe of some form or other.

By all means don't look like a tramp but you don't have to look like you've just been to a Saville Row tailor.

nobody said anything collars, ties, or tuxedos, but if you have taken numerous flights between Bangkok and Phnom Penh then you would realise how badly many foreigners 'let the side down'. They think it is like taking a bus between two towns in New York in summer or something. Singlets, short shorts and everything. It's ridiculous.

Resting your head on the wall of the plane is not going to make you sleep any better than you do when your legs have that crucial leg room that enables you to stretch out that little bit more, and that you can only get in the aisle.

bit of a hassle when they wheel the trolley round once every few hours and they wake you up to tell you get the hell out of the way, but it's still better.

I have 15 years of personal experience that says otherwise, I'm close to 6 foot just a little under with a reasonable seat pitch my feet and legs get comfortable, I don't sleep on my back at home and I don't when I am in a plane either.

aisle seats are just better although on the Gulf flights when it is just two short 7-8 hour flights, it doesn't matter.

when it is short flights like Mc'r to Paris and Guangzhou to Cebu then window seat is fine. But the big in between flight, the 10-11 hour Paris to Guangzhou, much better if it is an aisle seat.

I agree about the window seat.

Easily get one leg down the cabin wall and it does give you a solid wall to rest your head on.

Nothing worse that some passenger/FA walking up the aisle on dark out and smacking your outstretched leg or lolling head or sticky out shoulder when your fast asleep.

More to the point all passengers in the window seat will disturb the middle and aisle seat some of the time.

In a selfish way would much prefer its me disturbing the Stella's in their aisle seats than me being disturbed by someone who is consuming water like no tomorrow cause they read they need to be re hydrated.

Get in your little personal space and get comfy.

Don't you get it, this is just your opinion, there are millions of people who would disagree with you, I am one of them, just listen to me I LOVE looking out the window, nothing you can say will make me think an aisle seat is better, k!

Yeah drink, drink, drink, pee, pee, pee :D

It is a dry atmosphere and you do dehydrate a bit but that stops you needing to go to the loo, bonus :D even if you have a couple of wee bottles of wine you still don't need to get up for the loo :D

Good point aisle lovers are effectively guaranteed to be woken up over and over :D

I think he's just scared of flying ;)

I think I am relieved to get a seat these days. I know it was a short flight but we nearly missed it the other week what with traffic on the motorway getting to the airport, not being able to locate the pre booked parking in a hurry and then a heavy queue through security (wish we went fast track) and then they wanted to check us out further as we omitted to pull the kids iPad mini out of the carry on luggage and that was against a backdrop of a threatened air strike by Air France.

I've booked parking for next week and then I thought, your car is really old was that such a good idea what if it just chooses that day for the transmission to pack in (the only bit I am worried about) a taxi would have been easier and safer, but my own car is more convenient on the return journey when travelling via Dubai as the last leg is much longer than the last leg from Amsterdam :) at Amsterdam I might be tempted to have a Heineken, in Dubai I will barely have time to get from one flight to the other :)

I will be leaving home very early so I have plenty of spare time for getting settled in the Jet Park car park and I did take the option of booking fast track at Manchester, I hate the delay at security and because of my cameras and electronics I always end up having to empty just about everything, they are getting very fussy these days, I had a security lady in Alicante put me through the grinder last couple of times I passed through there, full explosives test and made me unpack absolutely everything.

I used to use the parking at M/C airport a lot but things have changed a little. Auto number plate recognition for one. But also the naming and there’s a new one which we booked that turned out to be in Wythenshaw. Lol. And no sign for it.

Leaving early is difficult for me owing to my partners laid back approach to timekeeping. :D

Well 8 hours is a hell of a stopover time. Too long for me.

Emirates is around 1 -2 hours. Etihad , around 2 hours. Long enough to get out and stretch your legs ... and avoid blood clots forming in them. Far superior airlines too... and probably at least a hundred quid cheaper than PAL. :like:
