:D Yes optics is quite a complicated subject. I myself am a novice in such matters. They are a medical device so deserves years of study in ophthalmology before one can dispense. There's various coatings too, anti scratch, anti fog, water repellant, blue light filtering. Great those marketeers :D

I nearly got ripped off the other day whilst buying some reading glasses..
"50.00 Pesos"?..."I know where I can get them for 30.00!!
As I have a kind heart,I paid the 50 Pesos anyway.. I suppose they have to make a living.

Ophthalmologists, I'm afraid my sister does not hold them in high regard :) she calls them technicians that do a pretty straightforward degree and yet they are/were a highly paid profession. My sister is an Orthoptist which she maintains was a much deeper and harder qualification to get but also one that was much less valued in terms of financial reward, Orthoptists deal largely with diagnosis of of eye and brain related disorders.

Thank you for reminding me that, of all the members of this Forum, you are the sole expert on all things Philippine and the rest of us should desist from passing-on the benefit of our knowledge and experience.

Purely weight of numbers, your view of the Philippines does not match many others on here or elsewhere, that I notice. Even Oss concedes on its drawbacks.

I quite like to hear opinion on the Philippines. It is a shame that one or two have a skewed view on it. For some reason some expats like to beef it up beyond credibility.

I am not going to play your little mind games, Mr Ash, you may believe what you choose to believe. If you wish to discount the knowledge that those of us who live here year round offer, then that's entirely up to you. We'll just pretend that you are the sole authority on all things Philippine - even though you've only visited briefly twice and confined yourself to the NCR.

I have pointed out to you before that my wife lived there all her life, i know someone who lived there for 14 years as an expat and gave up, there are a strong contingent on this forum who have strong opinion against and we know people in the Philippines who dont see it through rose tinted spectacles, prominent people at that.

Stop trying to sell it to us. Just an honest appraisal is all that is desired.

I do not see you as an authority on the Philippines. I see you as someone who has some sort of vested interest in promoting it over and above reasonable levels of reality.

I take heed of the following forum members on this:

    Oss
    Aposhark
    Aromulus
    Keith
    Timmers
    Methersgate
    Gorilla
    Subseastu

    Etc etc.

Everything I have written has been from the perspective of living in Davao. Which is quite unlike living in any other city in the country and not a place that (AFAIK) either your or your good lady wife - or, to the best of my knowledge, anyone else on this Forum have even visited, much less lived-in.

You say you trust and respect Micawber. You may recall that he owns property on Luzon (Marikina, I think) but he has chosen to spend his life here in Davao. So why not read his various threads of his experiences and life here in another place.

Now whether you are prepared to accept what I (and Peter) say is actually the case, well that's up to you. Nobody is forcing you to.

I have read writings from the Great Micawber and he just recently issued his first reservations about his move there. He is, as you may well know, not strongly tied to the UK. He has been an expat of some sort all of his life. He is a bit of an escapist and therefore has negative reasons for not living in the UK.

I guess he chooses Davao as that is where his relatives are from. Not Luzon.

I have to remind you again that 14 years in the Philippines is 14 years and 14 years of stories. They are all true and contradict the rose tinted glasses brigade. Because the stories are verifiable then of course I will go with those.

He had boots on the ground for 14 years, Boots. It must all be true. Whats more I know the guy personally, I know his wife and daughter and he comes across as having no motive to tell it any other way.

I would sooner go with his story than someone on the end of a keyboard that I do not know, cannot see and has a vested interest in hyping the Philippines as a place for a Brit Fil couple to uproot and settle in.

Markham you seem to count time served in the Philippines as crucial. How long have you been there for? 2 years? 3?

Stop trying to flog the Philippines. It would help. We are not all that dumb that we believe the sales pitch.

Actually Boots' properties are all, I believe, in Manila but that's not where he lives and where he writes about. Strange isn't it that the two people whose portrayals of life you dismiss and believe are entirely wrong are the only two on this Forum who actually live here day in, day out.

You tried to flog me some time in your apartment in Cavite. Okay but a bit seedy.

I will retrieve the evidence if need be.

Quick. Whip across to your other letting agency and delete it.
