Thats no good in Boracay or Batangas. I had a lot of trouble getting a pair of flip flops to fit. Size 11.
I sometimes wonder if you are talking about the same country. Your description of the Philippines appears to be diametrically opposite most views I hear, including a fair number of honourable members on this forum. I did see Marks and Spencer in MOA. But didnt go in as I didnt need to at the time and had already bought M and S stuff in the UK to take out with me. When it came to jeans I had some trouble with length. So I didnt bother looking too far. I had clothing with me. I guess you expats will know the best places to go but my impression was that the kind of shops you are talking about, although present in the Philippines, are not on every street corner. Didnt see Clarks either. Just checked with Mrs Ash. She wasnt aware of Clarks in the Philippines. But thats understandable at £70 to £100 quid a pop. I cant see any of her family in the Philippines, paying that kind of money for shoes. Her sister, who holds a good job, wouldnt buy a pair as its the best part of a weeks wages, if the prices are the same as UK prices. We all wear Clarks back here in the UK though.
Would you like to address your question to some of the other posters on this thread who also have had the same difficulty?
I visited M&S in Robinsons Mall (Ermita) at the start of this month, and was attracted to the biscuit display, the M&S chocolate digestives had two price stickers on them, 125 peso, and 95 peso. I needed chocolate. I took a pack of the dark chocolate digestives to the till and asked for assistance, they scanned them and confirmed that there was a special offer, a price reduction, the 95 peso price was correct. I took out my wallet to pay, they asked if I needed a carrier bag, I said no, and the price dropped to 85 peso as they rung up a 10 peso reduction on the till for not using a carrier bag! They then wrapped the biscuits up in a very nice little parcel using paper and tape. That is the kind of environmentally friendly that I like.
Yes, they have lost business from me due to that. Not the cash, it's the principle that counts. Rather than focussing on the fact that their bags are biodegradable, M&S UK focus on the fact that 5p from every bag makes a lot of profit for the company. Sadly I believe that their policy is soon being adopted as law by the Uk government.
Howerd has let the cat out of the bag. You ain't gonna beat Asda on progressives for price. Others sometimes charge extra for high prescriptionspeed, not Asda.
The taste of Great Britain. For a while I used to walk out of work, across the road to M and S and snap up a few cakes. Fantastic. Had to cut it out owing to high blood sugar.
I have trouble getting anything to fit in the UK as I am a size 10 and have wide feet and need the wide fitting from Clarks almost every time, sandals I buy in the regular sales at Clarks here in the UK and I take them over there. Regards the Clarks shops in the Philippines, they've been over there for many years, there's one in Robinson's in Malate and I'm pretty sure there is one in Mall of Asia now. Last time I was over in March I was really surprised when I found the Debenhams in Glorietta 4 just off the side of the floor where they have all the cinemas, we had a look around but it was a bit expensive.
I have seen bad reports about the cheap progressive lenses from places like Asda. Need to make sure that you are getting a decent quality lens.
I'm not sure on their photochromic pricing to be honest. If I was going to buy lenses anywhere I'd buy from Asda. I don't work for Asda btw
They have to be machined to a custom optical formula for the individuals prescription anyway, so the quality of the optics is only as accurate as the results of the eye test and the quality of the machining.
Very true. Some very customised dispensing techniques now. They're OTT for me but people feel like they're getting a better service.
I did enquire about M and S vouchers being purchaseable for use in the Philippines. But the computer said no. I wanted to purchase an M and S voucher for the mother in law to collect in M and S in the Philiippines. I enquired at our branch here but was told it was not possible.
The lens material plays a role in the thickness and strength of course. For example 1.5 index isn't recommended for drilled mounting.
I was going to add quality of material but thought I would keep it simple I wonder if you can get lenses made with Sapphire crystal coating to make them scratch proof
