I think Jim's comment was maybe not totally accurate in terms of actual numbers, but there is no doubting that UK is becoming a much more dangerous place to live. Reading about the recent wave of acid throwing incidents, it's pretty scary.
True, but these acid attacks are still extremely rare, legislation is being brought in to tackle it, and people are not taking the law into their own hands.
Dont remember anyone on here reporting being a victim of crime in the UK (apart from devorce lol)and in the Fils (apart from minor corruption)only Mark reported being mugged?
There have been incidents in which kidnapping was faked. In 1992, Joanna Grenside, an aerobics teacher from Harpenden, England, had staged her disappearance to avoid Christmas.
Asawa's brother was mugged 2 years ago waiting for Jeepney, they held him at knife point demanding his phone, which he passed over.

Yes you did help with a 'basic' question I asked, although you did come across as condescending .I haven't got the time to sift through all the posts as i'm busy trying to help my girlfriend get a passport ( which is turning into a farce ).Please feel free to ingnore any of my basic questions or posted opions in future.
My wife got a passport for her younger sister in 2 weeks. She visited us in Dubai and stayed for one month last May.
As long as there is nothing unusual in the person's history all you have to do is walk into the DFA with your documents and stand in a lot of queues, I did it for both my kids 9 years ago, passports were issued in a couple of days, we were never able to use them but they will help with the renewal when we finally do that.
Just asked my wife about her daughters they got it about 2 weeks after they had been to the passport office.
Does your wife agree with this, bigmac? Does she not want you to visit her family over there in the future?
my wife's center of life is in the uk--has been for years now. her family--are scattered all over the world. they all chat often on facebook. her son will be applying to join us later this year.
Inclined to agree with Aposhark Bigmac. It is her country and of course she has material and emotional ties. Why would you not want to visit and share that with her.
