Replying to the content in Steve Bennett's post, because it's too late to do anything other than focus on the boosters because a booster will have value 2 weeks after getting one, you are not going to cure Metabolic Syndrome in 2 weeks never mind 2 months that the remaining booster programme will likely take.

A real lockdown would just put legal force behind it anyone with any sense would be cancelling any plans for Christmas mixing until we have clarity on hospital admissions and we won't have that clarity for probably another 10 to 17 days.

At the rate that Omicron spreads all of us are going to get it, everyone's immunity is going to be challenged, while my FFP3 masks will likely still stop it I would be willing to bet that without eye protection people will still get infected with this.

While they are quoting an R0 value of 4 in the UK for this what they mean is that every infected person is infecting 4 more people but this is in a highly vaccinated population, the native R0 value of this variant in an unvaccinated population is closer to 15, the original wild version had an R0 value of about 3 compared to influenza at 1.5, Delta's native R0 was nearer 5 to 8 and this thing is now almost as infectious as the measles.

If it plays out that it rips through this country in a similar way as it is doing in South Africa then we are probably seeing the end of the pandemic, because all of us including those with 3 vaccinations will get a further boost from direct exposure to Omicron it's going to be damn near impossible to avoid now but the survivors that come out the other side will probably be in a position where further variants are far less dangerous than in the past.
