In the post by HaloHalo it says the English test is being withdrawn at the providers request, whether that means they are withdrawing it before they are pushed into doing so by the UKBA I don't know. You always think that anything relating to Cambridge English will be legitimate.

    I am becoming very confused.

Pearson seem to be OK, is anyone else still qualified?

IELTS or Pearson seem the safe options now.

Thanks. I am going to look into IELTS because Kor is rather "computer shy" and whilst her English is fluent she is not at an academic level

The wife did IELTS test at the British Council in Manila as at that time there weren't any tests available in Cebu. If she does the course and still has doubts or lacks confidence, there is additional training materials in the BC provided free. My wife only realised this when she went in for the actual test (training was elsewhere), luckily she felt she could pass.

I think you're doing the right thing tbh. The Pearson test is very academic/scientific. And it's completely done on the computer. My other half's English is very good and he did score well but he found it very daunting. I think the general test is definitely the better option.

    Thank you both very much.

My father was a British Council Representative, so I shall demonstrate loyalty to his old firm!

(it was a very different organisation in those distant days, of course)

Just to be very clear what Timmers means is that Lisa is a UK citizen who has a boyfriend in the Philippines, he is the one taking the test.

Just out of interest. My wife has to retake her test here. As her original test result is no longer valid. It is Cambridege E.S.O.L. Speaking and Listening, so they are providers too. Not sure if they operate in the Philippines. 2 people we know also did the same test for ILR

I am trying to fight my way through the convoluted, user -unfriendly, British Council website in order to find out what Kor has to do to book an IELTS English Language test.

Frankly, the wbole thing resembles an obstacle course - it is infinitely less user friendly than the process required for the TB test - yet surely the object in both cases is simply to ensure that the person taking the test is the right person?

    Look at this little lot!

I'm afraid everything to do with the visa process is convoluted and over complicated, all obstacles that you will navigate around or over to get your loved one on the aeroplane to the UK.
