PAL is far better domestically than internationally. "Plane Always Late" is the moniker the airline was deservedly awarded back in the nineties and noughties and, on its international flights, continues to live up to that reputation.

The only advantage PAL has with its London service is that it is a non-stop flight but the routing is horrible as it was refused slots to overfly China and Russia - the route taken by KLM - and that adds nearly four hours. KLM used to fly non-stop to Amsterdam but now flies via Taipei. But if you live near a UK provincial (or major) airport, the chances are very strong that your door-to-door times will be shorter with KLM than PAL - and KLM is generally cheaper (and has seat-back screens throughout).

i have have used them before and ive got two trips booked for march and april next year with them as well, the other half has used them 4 times now also, we like using them as its direct, yeah the food is abit limited if you a fussy eater like me but I always make sure I eat well before getting on. i find with the ipads its not too bad to watch films but trouble is there is not many to choose from, ive only had one time where one had games on, i actually played monopoly for quite some time haha.

main thing is you get there safe and keep thinking of what's waiting the other end lol

i have noticed on the flight out to manila there are a few spaces towards the back so some people get to lay across all four seats. I have had window seats a couple times and lucky no one next to me so I could lay across the two, ( good thing about being short).
my return flights have seemed pretty full up.
last time i returned back to England i chose one seat out of the row of three towards the back hoping to get the whole row but wasn't lucky enough, but the guy who had the opposite end fell asleep upright while we was waiting to take off, so i was able to put feet up on the middle seat for most of the journey.

Good luck with your trip @SoldierRJ88 the best feeling in the world to finally meet a loved one again.

Here's what you could have booked (direct with KLM):

Flights around Easter are more expensive than at non-holiday periods. If you were to travel in three weeks time, for example, the round trip flight cost would be just £525.34 (KLM's quoted fares include all taxes).

with PAL i paid £438 to go in march and £ 424 april, but i did book in October , my parents got there's for £375.
i guess it depends how comfortable you want to be on the flight and if you mind stopping to change.

Rule One for the traveller between Britain and the Philippines is "avoid the British school holidays whilst you can" because soon enough you will be travelling with children...

(Don't ask me how I know that... )

I just booked my next flight to the Phils the other day. (For March -April). I always book direct with the airline.

£392 all inclusive, with Emirates, from Manchester. 17.5 hour flight, 1.5 hour break in Dubai. A380 to Dubai, then Boeing 777- 300 to Manila.

I like a break in the flight to stretch my legs.

Used this routing many times. This time I'm coming back using Clark airport in Pampanga, which is very convenient, with us living up in Pangasinan.

It's the country's flagship carrier. I've heard positive reviews of this airline company. Have a safe flight! ;)

That's a very good deal. Particularly since the Easter UK school holiday is in April.

Like you I am an enthusiast for the Emirates 380 to Dubai, which is a pleasant spot to spend an hour or two stretching your legs in, and I like Clark as an airport. Sadly it's no longer convenient for us, as K lives in England and no longer in Luzon, so we take a flight that gets us to Mindanao...

I've flown poultry-class with China Southern twice. Starting the journey from Spain leaves me with plenty of options, but lots of stopovers as the main hubs are either in northern Europe or the Middle East. So far I've seen Paris and Rome airports and Guangzhou in China twice. I liked Guangzhou but the two European airports were as pricey, dirty and tired as their respective cities might suggest.

My recommendation would be not to bother with China Southern unless your sleeping pill of choice has a MAX STRENGTH!! sticker on the front of the box. And if you are diminutive in both length and breadth. It's a bit of a squeeze for the more leggy or rotund.

Much better was my first flight, with Emirates via Dubai. I think the halfway point stroll around a fantastic airport for an hour and a half really helped, rather than the 12h:30m Paris to China/Rome to China marathons. The Emirates planes were clean, modern and with great in-flight entertainment in the seat backs, and a wider seat with an inch or two more legroom. In fact, allowing for the fact I was crossing half the planet, it was a nice experience for an economy flight.

The return flight was not so good though. An eight-hour overnight stopover in Dubai airport was not so much fun when, as per another post, I had empty pockets, having spent almost every peso in the Philippines. But such a stopover is the price of living in Spain, with it not being so busy a route. Flying to London would no doubt be different.

Im flying China Southern in March, Manchester to Paris, Paris to Guangzhou, then Guangzhou to Manila. I don't mind the short stopovers as its a chance to stretch my legs.

Plus China Southern seem to be the only carrier that can get me to Manila for around lunch time, which means I can then hop on my connection flight to General Santos instead of staying in a hotel one night.
