i'm pretty sure i didnt address it as such--just typed the headline "declaration as to source of savings" or some such. Just so the clerk dealing with the application didnt have to think too much.

    Hi Mattecube,

Based in your above calculation in two stages. Can you please help if my calculation is correct. Please find below calculation.
I can't think properly and worry a lot about the financial requirement. My biometrics and submission of documents is due in 3 weeks so I have to finalize all the required documents.
My husband is self employed and usually his gross annual income is 30k to 35k but it was affected drastically due to Covid pandemic.

    Here is the sample calculation

    Annual Gross April 2019 to April 2020 - 18,500
    Annual Gross April 2020 to April 2021 - 19, 800
    Annual Gross April 2021 to April 2022 - 8,000
    Payslip April 2022 to June 2022 ( 3 months ) - 7000

Do you think that the 19,800 will be included in the calculation? Or based the calculation in latest year? Please let me know your thoughts. Im really worried.

Thank you so much for response and i hope the other will share their thoughts as well.

    Regards,
    Zaina

Hi. Can anyone confirm my understanding of the amount of cash savings I would need when my wife applies for ILR on the 5 year route. It appears that when you are at the ILR stage you dont need to divide by 2.5 the savings above £16,000? Am I right in thinking therefore I would need savings of £34,600 at least (£34.600 - £16000 + £18.600)? I also have a pension of £5000 gross annually that I can add. Many thanks for any help

if i remember correctly--its not 2.5 times for ILR--just one year. So its £18,600 minus your pension £5k = so £13,600.

If you receive any carer or disability benefits you only have to show you have enough money to live on.

if your spouse works you can use your pension plus her earnings to meet the£18600

if you relay on savings alone you would need £34600 on savings
As I understand the rules you would meet it this way if you are relying on pension plus savings

    base rate £16000
    Minimum earnings £18600
    Equals £34600
    Minus pension £5000
    Savings required £29600

I think that’s how it would be calculated

plus the £16000 threshold...so £29600 savings + the pension figure

Thanks for your replies. That is how I saw the calculation as well. Will keep fingers crossed no changes to the income threshold. Appreciate your help

I seriously don't understand, with all this requirements to British spouses to become citizens. I find it unfair that they also have to go through to all of this hurdle to prove their incomes that they can support their spouses and when they've got their spouses a spouse visa, it clearly says 'no recourse to any government funds' when refugees can easily come in to the country and claim benefits as well. :frust:
Where is the logic in this?

We originally used the normal UK visa route and then managed to switch to EU settlement scheme and difference between the two is massive and not just the cost. Shows that they could run a scheme that works treats people well when go through legal route. Considering that both routes ran in parallel for many years it is outrageous over how UK citizens are treated. Now everyone is in the same boat but moves to the lower standard.

Current visa schemes are money making machine and that is what it is about. Remember reading briefing paper for MPs on increases to IHS charges and one of considerations was whether would lose money with increases and expectation was no as families would pay as no other option.

Can anyone here confirm costs of ILR visa for wife been here 5 years in July I know its 2404 pounds but what is the NHS surcharge and how many years is it calculated on once you have ILR you can stay forever.I know we need life in the U/K test but apart from that not much ,more than the ;last visa , any ideas how long this visa takes to come through once applied for?

You need to pay the healthcare surcharge if you apply for indefinite leave to remain but are only given limited leave
. You'll need to pay before you're given the leave. In other words at application for ILR you pay nothing but if they write back to you and say youve only been granted limited leave for whatever reason then you would have to pay it!
Once granted you ILR you can stay forever either on ILR as a none British citizen or apply for British citizenship straight away as she is married to a Brit.
Yes the application testis just like the previous ones just updated info and as you say the Life in UK

Thanks for the reply Mattecube, why would they only give you limited leave any idea why this could happen, so that's good news we don't pay when we apply, my wife is working here in a school and our home has not changed, finances are ok so I think we should be fine.

Not sure on reasons why they may only grant leave, possibly if applicant been in minor bother stuff like that!
Good Luck with application sure you will be fine.
