I didn't realise it had been there for so long, I thought it was developed after the coal mines shut down in the area, having said that it was probably thirty years since the mines did shut down with the help of Mrs T of course :)

Where did you live in the old Lancashire HaloHalo, were you in the pie eaters territory Wigan or was it Warrington?

Yes Warrington. In fact a small village just to the north well known for its artesian well brewery. When I say well known I mean the brewery not the artesian well per se. Do you know where?

I worked for a company on Burtonwood Industrial Estate for two years that's why I know, about half a mile away :)

Yep that's it. When I was a kid the industrial estate wasn't an industrial estate, it was just a single company that spanned the entire site.

The industrial estate is a real dump now and it stinks in summer due to a large vegetable processing plant being there. I saw only recently that two pubs have recently closed in the village making way for more development I believe. Still a good place to live and very handy for getting on the M62.

Yes as anywhere these days, lots change. I went IKEA last year and the place is unrecognisable now. What was a massive US air force base complete with runway is now engulfed with huge warehouses. The village is almost not a village as the housing estates stretching from Warrington are almost encroaching upon it. I can't believe the pubs have gone, they were the lifeblood of social engagement for the grown ups. Lots of changes and not necessarily for the better.

I'm like you, I don't believe that change is always good, I remember the old air force base complete with hangars.

Very true. When it was operational the base reportedly had the biggest single storey building in Europe.

They had open days towards the latter days (just prior to closure), they had army jeeps (3 high) for a far as the eye could see, mind blowing.
