Hi everyone my name is Garry - pleased to meet you :)

I love a beautiful Filipina called Arlen and we have been together for 2 years.

One day soon I plan to retire to the Philippines with my lady but while I am still working I have tried to get a visa for her to come and stay with me for a few months to enjoy an English summer.

Regrettably, the mean-spirited pen-pushing, box ticking parasites in the British embassy in Manila have twice refused her a visa :(

They say they are not convinced of her 'personal circumstances'. There is no right of appeal so we now have to try again, losing another 3 weeks and costing 80 pounds each time.

The FCO website offers no guidance whatsoever as what constitutes satisfactory personal circumstances, does anyone have any ideas?

hi garry--welcome to the site. i'm retired already--living in th UK--with a partner of 4 years i'm hoping to bring over on a settlement visa later this year. she got a visit visa 2 years ago on a second attempt.

your lady needs to show compelling reasons to return to the filis----a home--family--job--business--bank account--that sort of thing.

meantime--cant you go over there for a holiday ? have you met yet ?

    Hi Bigmac

yes we have met many times and we provided loads of photos to prove this on our second application as the first one was refused as the disbelieving b*****ds doubted we had met.

We provided bank account, family details, home address etc but my girl is from a poor family so doesn't own any property and doesn't have a job any more as she was working in Hong Kong but gave that up to follow me.

Yes I plan to go there again soon for holiday but I had hoped to bring her here to meet my family.

Hi Garry, guess that I am retired already, I cannot understand why anybody would want to live in the UK.

If you feel that your lady is right for you, head over to the Philippines and don't let her out of your sight or she will be gone.

Don't blame the British Embassy, they are only trying to prevent you and the British Taxpayer being scammed.

    And welcome aboard!

If you girl has no property then I don't see her coming over. My wife now got her first visa before we married with property the first time she was turned down as at the time she rented and that was not good enough for the immigration. I may be wrong but that was my experience. After her first visa no problems at all.

Haha yes the question has arisen!

It looks like the only option but it's complicated as I have grown up children

    Families eh?

We had two visit visas declined around seven years ago, I still feel a little bitter about it as she was granted a UK visit visa only a year before to attend a friends wedding. Alarm bells start ringing at the UKVI when a Filipina applies for a UK visit visa to meet a loved one.

All that is behind us now though as you can see from the avatar, we married in the UK last October.

Congratulations on your wedding mate - can't even imagine the pain you've had to go through getting spouse visa if getting a visitor visa is so hard?

Spouse visa and fiance visa are actually probably easier to acquire than visitor visas - just more expensive.

I know a couple, and the woman came over from Asia on a visitor visa, never went back when it ran out and has now given birth here.

Don't blame the government. Blame people like them.

It's always the same - people who play by the rules suffer while cheats prosper :(

A settlement visa is easier to get than a visit visa, in a lot of cases that is.
