Why go all the way to England to be sectioned under the mental health act...???

Sorry, personally I don't know, but I am pretty sure that if you try asking some Pinays in your immediate are, they may just know where to find such dubious delicacy..
No doubt that there will be one or two Filipino run asian stores, I suggest you look them up and ask the all important question.

    Welcome aboard

I could only find one Filipino restuarant in Scotland (Edinburgh) and when we phoned to ask if they serve balut he just laughed and said it was illegal in Scotland.

There doesn't seem to be much of a Filipino community in Scotland either... most foreigners here tend to be either Chinese or Indian.

There was a post here a few weeks back showing a picture of a tray full of balut in an Asian store in the Isle of Man which is a small island off the west coast of England if you didn't already know. Other than that I think you may be looking at London. You could do your own if you got hold of some fertile chicken or duck eggs, into the airing cupboard next to the hot water tank, its very unlikely they would hatch doing that but they may develop enough then die in the incubation process, but that's what you want right.

As you shop around looking for balut look for big signs that say Tesco, Asda or Sainsburys, they sell food that is a lot more palatable than that sh** you want to eat.

    Good luck and :welcome:

There are lots of Indian and Chinese eateries throughout the UK, Indian food now tops the list of most eaten foods here. You wont find many Filipino restaurants about but there are a few, if you search the forum I'm sure you will come across a few reviews.

Filipino and English restaurants are rarely seen outside their own countries, probably because both foods are a little nondescript. :)

In Manchester, there is a shop in Chinatown called 'Woo Sang'. I've been in there with my wife and the lady behind the counter pointed out she had fresh Balut from that morning. It seems they get it delivered every so often.

I did an old review of that shop here.

Fresh certainly isn't a way to describe balut :)

Balut should be sold like cigarettes at a supermarket, a health warning on the shell and in a cupboard behind the counter to keep it hidden from the general public. I have not met many Filipinos who enjoy balut although most people seem to have had an attempt at eating it.

Kuya, is the Chinatown in Manchester across from Yates Wine lodge then down the backstreets there?

Pretty much, yes. Opposite Yates, head south away from Piccadilly for a block and you will see the Chinese style gate.

Thanks Kuya, I had the location a little mixed up in my mind with the one in Birmingham.

I had a full English breakfast earlier this week on the outskirts of Manila. Washed down with a pint of Tetley's bitter ;)
Plenty of filipino restaurants in the states.

I like the sound of the English breakfast Alfie but not the Tetley's bitter, Tetley tea would have been better and probably stronger too :D

An eleven o'clock English Breakfast here in Bangkok today, cost 260 THB = £4.71.

Sausage, Bacon, Beans, Mushrooms, two fried eggs, Tomato, toast with butter and jam, and a cup of decent coffee.

HP sauce in a proper glass bottle as well!

I normally don't touch beer till late evening.

Making me feel hungry again Dave, think I might pop down to Wetherspoons for the same breakfast, too much trouble making a breakfast like you described above at home, especially when you look at the price you're paying.

Been considering putting a Balut egg in someone's fridge as a prank.. They'd get a shock if they tried to make an omelette out of it!

    (I know, I'm evil..)
