Hi all - invaluable advice as always - respect and gratitude to all contributors.

Been looking at UK.Gov site and it appears that the former Fiancée visa is now called ‘family of a settled person’ visa. I followed the process through to check if my GF (assuming we decide to become engaged etc!) would have to pay the IHS surcharge for her and her 13 year old son. By my reckoning she would - at £600 a pop each - making £1200 in total. This seems to be at odds with some info provided above. Grateful for definitive advice please.

It also states that during the period leading up to marriage she could not find employment. As I right in thinking that this prohibition would be removed upon marriage? Finally (for now!) and following marriage - when would she apply for FLR?

    Ta muchly.

hi my partner and i are on the process of completing the requirements for the application and this forum has really helped us a lot.

we're planning to submit our application around Nov and hopefully we will be approved immediately. just want to ask, once we get the visa, until when can i leave for UK? our big problem is, on March next year, i have to go back here in the Philippines to attend my sister's graduation. she's graduating in PMA so it's really big deal for my parents that our family is complete during her graduation.

we are really torn if we'll just process the application after March next year or just submit the docs this Nov, and if ever we'll be approved, i just come back here in Phil on March then after around 2 weeks go back to UK again to get married.

please let me know your thoughts on this. thank you.

Hi @Scotschap16! The IHS surcharge will only be paid when you apply for the FLR which will happen after you get married. And yes it is 600 per person. I'm not sure what fiancee visa is called now, sorry about that. But again, the IHS surcharge should not come up when you apply for the fiancee visa. Hope that helps!

    Quick simple question.
Do I have to glue my passport photos on the vaf4a form? Or the staffs in vfs will check it first and then glue?

I just provided them with my photos; didn't glue them on the form.

How many did she take? The staff in the premium lounge seems very unfriendly. She forgot to ask for my photos. I just remembered that I haven't provided one when I was organizing the remaining papers. Seems she's not too interested. Lol. She only took one photo and just put it in the envelope, not glued. :(

Not glued for me. The staff just put it in the envelope. Should I be worried?:(

I don't remember anymore how many were needed but don't worry too much. Mine wasn't glued to the application, just handed her over everything including the photo. Can you check the requirements to see how many were needed? And if you availed the premium service and you didn't get treated well, file a complaint.

    Good luck on your application!

I submitted two passport photos placed in a small plastic. Then I got the photos back with my documents and visa.

Heya worry not they only took 1 from me too. :) it's only for the application form.
The photograph they have taken when you did the biometrics will be the one they'd use for the actual visa.

Only one is needed, so don't worry about it. For my previous visit visas and fiancee visa, I've always submitted 2 but I got them back after.

It's a fiancé visa so it'll take longer than you girlfriend.
    Hopefully, in early November. :geek:

Anyway, my Fiancé is on his way to the airport now. We have this weekend to share. :D

Hi. If our intended date of travel is on march 2017. Do you think it's too early for us to apply for visa this coming november?

    The earliest you can apply for a UK visit visa is three months before your intended travel date;

    https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor-visa/overview

If you are applying for a settlement visa then you need to submit three months before your intended travel date for the regular visa, remember though that you can use the ten day premium service which a lot of people are now doing.
