Meeting for the first time

Just a quick question I've finally brought a ticket and head out to meet my girlfriend in Manila in December.
So how did everyone find meeting for the first time after speaking for so long online, Skype, phone etc and any top tips.

Its a very good question, I would like to hear people's thoughts too as I met my wife the old fashioned way.

I bet it is a weird and surreal experience meeting after just Skyping.

Its a bit awkward at first but give it a few hours.

Then afterwards, it become very easy. All those times talking over the skype really do felt like you know each other very well.

In my case, the biggest problem for me when we met for the first time, was how young she looked. Even younger in the flesh so to speak than on line. It did take some time for me to get my head around the age difference. Apart from that, it was very easy, very natural, we chatted about anything and everything, walked on the beach, held hands, peck on the cheek when it was time to say goodbye. Amazingly, after that first meet she was wanted to carry on with me, and that as they say was it. Happily married and looking forward to a life of happiness.
What can I say to you? Just be yourself, try to relax, show her respect and don't be too serious.

also--the size difference. my wife is very small. i can lift her with one arm..but she can lift me with one finger......

I have to join in here as I do the same this Friday in the Cayman Islands. I am so nervous. We Skype nearly twice a day but I am really really nervous about meeting. Kiss? hug? shake hands? Selfie? WTF....

A few cold drinks prior should settle you down a bit

There is some good advice here thanks for that. But obviously for every "perfect" first meeting there must be a few comical ones with all the cultural differences thrown in.

Meeting her parents may be a biggy for you, they will want to know all about you and will probably ask what your intentions are going forward, I always remember that it amused the hell out of me when my mother in law was grilling me

That is something to look forward to in itself

No mother this time she works away so I'm having dinner with her brother, sister and cousin. Looks like I'm cooking as well, I'm also good at cuffing as necessary so I'm not worried about the interrogation to be honest it should be fun (probably the wrong thing to think)

Just be yourself. If you and your girlfriend have been comfortable and honest to each other throughout the time you chat online, then the first meeting wouldn't be awkward.
