Started in January I have a ( Martin) Buchan number 6 shirt from the early 80s and the aim is to get into that. A bit off yet
“Obesity is the most successful pandemic since the bubonic plague, and it’s not going to be sent on its way by doctors standing around in their white coats saying tut-tut.” https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/obesity-nhs-health-crisis-b1850079.html
Not lost any weight for 4 weeks, not done anything different from when I started in January in fact my total carbs yesterday was only 8 total carbs. I have notice my legs and arms are skinny but my belly fat is still there. I guess you can't target your body to lose fat in a specific area?
I was told when there is a lot the first weight loss can be dramatic but as you reduce it becomes slower. They are educating my stomach to want less or none of the wrong things and more of the Right things. One thing is for sure I can move about a lot more.
That's true whatever diet you follow, very overweight people have, contrary to most people's perception, a higher basal metabolic rate simply because they have to keep a larger body mass at a temperature of 36.9C as your weight drops the basal metabolic rate drops i.e. your total energy requirement as you don't have as much stuff to keep warm.
John won't agree with me, but levels of activity matter as well. Same as you legs and arms are thinner, belly definitely smaller 37 lbs in 114 days but things are a lot slower now, I am still reducing in weight.
I have home-gym on the 3rd floor, I use that 3x a week. I use to walk but it's got a little dangerous walking along the road (road works) Some parts you have to walk in the road to get past holes. Maybe I should buy a tread-mill or an exercise bike.
Sounds like your house is wonderful, Jim. Do you feel safe in the Duma area, are there break-ins or does everybody look after each other's property ?
I have one of these it's portable not big and can be used at many different times. I use it both as legwork and armwork starting price£20 on eBay
You also have to balance all the benefits against negatives e.g. fresh ginger 18 grams per 100 carbs but good for you in many other health areas
I don't have a problem with Ginger, I use plenty in curries and in Chinese dishes and in Filipino cooking, ingredients like that are fine, the per portion amount of carbs for someone on LCHF will never be particularly high. I also still believe that people can get rid of a lot of weight on any diet, the real benefit of the LCHF is that it suppresses appetite very effectively, for me at least it was not that easy to follow because I really like rice but having adjusted now I don't have a problem not eating rice.
I was just using ginger as an example of how you have to try and balence a diet to meet potential other health needs very much like water melon Watermelon may be a natural Viagra, says a researcher. That's because the popular summer fruit is richer than experts believed in an amino acid called citrulline, which relaxes and dilates blood vessels much like Viagra and other drugs meant to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).1 Jul 2008 And only 6 carbs per 100gr
The main thing is to get the right mix of vitamins and the likes from your diet, and you can do that with any diet if you make choices that deliver the vitamins you need, everything else that you eat ultimately gets converted to glucose or ketones and burned or stored as fat, the main problem with LCHF for me is fibre and gut health and my BP readings are down a lot on LCHF but that is likely due mostly to the weight reduction. I would not be telling 20 or 30 year olds that they had to follow LCHF as the only way to stay healthy, being active and eating what you need is fine for most people. I would be telling them not to go drinking 40 pints of beer a week and to avoid junk food packed with sugars but that would be enough.
