The definition of healthy is a matter of opinion, if you goal is to eliminate sugars i.e. carbohydrates from your diet then the potatoes in that recipe would count as a no, but the fish the butter and the milk are perfectly healthy to consume.

Anyone with type 2 diabetes probably wants to avoid the potatoes and any other carbs as much as possible.

I didn't know what Cullen Skink was never had it but the recipe looks lovely.

Well I just weighed in at 14 stone 3 pounds this morning first time I've been under 199 pounds since 1991.

Yes my scales are manky I need to clean them embarrassed I didn't clean them before taking this shot :D I also cropped this really tight to reduce the visible mankyness :D
    [IMG]

I've now reduced my weight by 67 lbs in 322 days of LCHF and 74 lbs since January 4th 2021

In kilograms I weigh 90.27 kg a reduction of 33.57 kg since January 4th, I find kilos an easier measure to think about the feel of the weight but imperial stones and pounds better as the absolute measure of weight, 33 kilo is like trying to lift more than one and a half of those huge sacks of rice that we buy in the Philippines, it's a hell of a lot of weight.

Still aiming to get down to at least 12st 7 lbs might even try to get back under 11 stone 13 lbs will see what I look like when I get down that low, I will have hanging folds of belly skin by that time (I don't just now) but it won't be as bad as I originally thought it might, when you are fat skin stretches but it does not un-stretch that much in the other direction when you are as old as I am :D

Lowest i made was 90.8 kg last week--but gone up to 92 since i started eating again. Er indoors allows me one can of lager every other day.
My MRI scan last week has shown no stones or other issues. Surgeon phoned me a few days ago to say i was now on non-urgent list for gall bladder op--unless the pains return. So my out patient appt for xmas eve is cancelled.

Good to see you sticking with it. I actually dropped down into Keto a couple of weeks ago and started to lose weight again. Mrs Ash is sticking to her low carb approach and hanging on without gaining weight.

It’s remarkable how effective it is for so many people. For so many that are willing to do it. But for everyone who can and does do it there are those that cannot give up their carbohydrate addiction.

I do finally feel it easier to move and walk, things like tying shoelaces are real now and something I can do without contortions :D

I've also remembered that my T-shirt size in the 1970s and 80s was a Medium and not Large, I am now a large and they are becoming slightly baggy and the 38" waist jeans I bought are already starting get slack.

I've also lost some fat from my feet, my feet now fit some really excellent Clarks Gore-Tex shoes that I bought some years ago in the sales but which I struggled with at the time and I also better fit a pair of Clarks boots that I bought around the same time.

That’s it. The fat disappears from everywhere.

Have you tried running yet? It can be quite exhilarating, sprinting using body fat as fuel.

No not going to run walk briskly yes but I need a bit of training before running, my heart would very rapidly struggle if I tried to run just now I am that out of condition :D I wish this bleedin pandemic would end because at this weight I wanted to start swimming to improve aerobic capacity.

You have to remember I have not been this weight since 1991, thirty years, a couple of years prior to that I was cycling a lot but on moving into software development my weight started to creep up between 1989 and the end of my first software job in 1992, I was less than 15 stone when I first joined the BCT consultancy in Glasgow in 1993, I've not exercised since then.

Wife and I had health check-ups yesterday. I have put on some weight and still doing the low carb diet but my doctor says everything is normal, she was surprised at my results I was more surprise than her the amount of rum I drink.
Not so good for my wife, her cholesterol count was high and she has to take some sort of statins for a month. I told her not to eat cake and high carb foods. Here's my results, don't understand the heart chart. @oss

Your results look good that T-wave inversion thing is about the way teh heart recharges electrically for the next beat, reading around you can get an inversion if you have drank something cold.

The bits of the ECG graphs that look odd are where the spike goes low compared to the other spikes going high, I am guessing the inversion is those ones.

Has your wife been following the same kind of diet as you?

No, wife's been eating loads of high carb food and cookies. I told her to stop eating that junk but she won't listen to me, basically she eats anything that's in the fridge. She had a strange experience a few days ago, she could not get out of bed or lift her head up, very dizzy. I had to assist her so she could use the toilet, she was like this for a day and night but felt a little better after 2 days she would not go to the hospital. I told her I will take her to the clinic and we both had check ups.
The doctor put her on statins for a month and has to go back in a months time to see if her bad cholesterol has gone down. I told her to eat plenty of vegetables for fiber and lay off fatty foods. She thinks she can eat what I eat, plenty of fat and some protein.
Getting started on low carb diet takes a lot of doing as you know, Jim. I don't think she has the will power to keep off the junk food, if she mixes up fat and eats high carbs she could have a problem, her dad had 3 stokes the last one killed him, so it's in her genes.

Oh dear Jim. Good luck with the Mrs. My wife’s sisters are the same. Many people across the globe struggle to come to terms with ditching carbs and eating more protein and healthy fat. In the case of Mrs Ash, she can see what it has done for me and also what it has done for her. Not everyone wants to sacrifice their favourite carbs to improve their health, especially if they sceptical in the first place. One of Mrs Ash’s sisters has high blood pressure (high blood as they call it) but has gone down the medication route. She isn’t fourty yet. Just can’t lay off the carbs.

Some people do make dietary changes and they work of course but often it can be late in the day.

I haven’t been following OSS’s progress recently but he is living proof that it works. It will work for us all. Oss, myself, yourself, Apo, Dom, BigMac and anyone else on this forum. No need for Metformin, no need for insulin unless T1 and no need for statins if we make the right food choices.

Who’s report is that? The HbA1c looks normal at 5.2%

I see that’s your report. Excellent blood sugar result.

    That's my results, John.
13 months on the keto diet. I don't think my wife will do the keto diet but she will watch what she eats.

Salmon pan fried in butter - brilliant. It gives a nice crispy skin too. Serve with asparagus and tender stem broccoli. No pasta, no fries etc. Salmon is an oily fish and is very filling.

Extracted from the Financial Times today. Look out for PHC and The Lifestyle Club.

“Now a lifestyle advocacy group, Public Health Collaboration, which includes Unwin as vice chair of its scientific advisory board, is preparing to launch a new service, The Lifestyle Club (TLC). It offers an eight-week health coaching service and ongoing support for lifestyle behavioural change. The service will be promoted to employers once it is established in GP practices, explains TLC operations manager, Helen Gowers.”

Yes, I know there are a couple on here that cannot get their head around all this good stuff. The success rate is. 50% where the method is being applied. Those that don’t succeed are often those struggling to understand.
