So basically you object to the welfare state in its entirety?

Have I said that? How do you draw that conclusion?

    By inference.

This quote appears to be to suggest that whether 1 person or a million EU were getting access to any benefit even 1 less is worth it in your view.

Then you list British benefit claimants as spongers, not just some of them therefore I infer that you mean all of them.

So I get the feeling that you would prefer that there were no benefit claimants of any kind, I consider the NHS a benefit, it's one I pay for along with everyone else, so I guess one less unemployed British sponger not getting NHS treatment would be a good thing as well.

Youve took it out of context by inference!
I used the word "of" meaning belonging to the EU.
Have i said I would prefer no benifits system? NO
Is the NHS a benefit? kind of but one every employed person, EU citizens included that pays UK National Insurance contributions pays into. So no I am not opposed to that.
What i am opposed to is sponging and blatent abuse!

So let me ask then, how big a problem has this ever been, how big a problem is this "sponging and blatant abuse"?

Please quantify it, as we seem to have gone to a lot of trouble and huge potential expense to eliminate this perceived expense.

"There, but for the grace.... etc"!

Surely, unless you never draw a State pension, we ALL 'end up' on welfare at some point?
Some, of course, will argue that State pension is not Welfare/benefits - but we all pay NI so that we can all 'benefit' later in life?

Let's not forget that, in the post-war (in particular, WW2) years, we welcomed immigrants to do the jobs nobody else wanted to do or we didn't have the people to fill.
Now things have 'got a bit tough' it's all the fault of Johnny-foreigner...!

Totally agree and let me reiterate I am all for people of ANY race coming into the country as long as the playing field is level for EU and non EU folk and they don't add further pressure to the welfare of the country.
Pretty sure my wife's BRP card reads not entitled to benefits!
We should never forget the Polish pilots of world war two amongst others

As I pointed out earlier! As we pay our NI contributions the pension is a right to have not a benifit
My comments about prayers not required was specific to the universal credit!

But it *was* a level playing field. British people had equal rights to work and settle in 27 neighbouring countries. We have cut off that opportunity to hundreds of thousands of British citizens.

You may say that "I don't want to work or live in Latvia" but, bu the same token, you are going to struggle to work or live in India, Nigeria etc of wherever the next batch of low wage (but not necessarily low skilled) workers come from.

So my wife could of come here from the Philippines with no job no sponsor?

Of course not. We don't have a reciprocal agreement with the Philippines.

However, you could get a job in Germany without a sponsor. A German could get a job in the UK without a sponsor. That's called reciprocity.

We've slammed that door in our face.

I think you need to reread my post again I said I want a level playing field for Any race EU or non EU.
I was being sarcastic with the comment about my wife getting here!
The field was not level fortunately we are doing something about it.
