Hello BF members! Hope everyone is well. I'm creating this thread while waiting for the visa. Thinking about applying for a part-time job but, to be honest, there is no such thing here in the Philippines!

Got refused in one of the BPO companies when they learned I have plans in going to the UK. I was advised by a friend to 'not be too honest' in stating that I would go abroad.

Does anyone here experience the same situation? Can someone give me advice NOT to feel guilty in 'lying' just to land a job.

    Thanks in advance!

Easier to not mention it. No lie told then.

Well, the problem is my line of profession has always been associated in going abroad o_O

My sister is also a nurse, has a regular job in the city health office..i remembered her doing SP jobs, maybe that will suit you coz of your UK plans..by that you won't fear in telling the truth that u can't stay long in a job .I understand, some Patient/clients are paying on a daily rate.I hope you can find one just to get you busy.:)

A very apt post, I've just been to Belgium today for a job interview, I didn't lie about anything but I felt like a top Barrister at times when I was bending the truth :).

I had to do skill tests as well which is one way of sorting the men from the boys.

And another strange thing, one of the bosses who interviewed me today had just got back from the Philippines, he does some kind of voluntary work helping slum kids there, so obviously one thing lead to another and I told him about my plight with visas and the like for the loved one. He had wondered why I didn't want to start with the company for six months if I was to be offered the job, after explaining that I needed to show a solid work history for visa purposes he was quite happy. He took his wife to Dubai after Manila too so we had a good chat about that too.

Everything went swimmingly really until I told him how much salary I wanted , he nearly choked on his biscuit.

Something tells me I wont be hearing from them again :)

Same thing happened to me at first it all went well and when the question of going to abroad came up, the interviewer's mood suddenly went different. The difference, he wasn't eating biscuit

I've never failed a job interview until that time. I just consoled myself by telling 'it's not for me, I deserve something better.

When do you plan to come to the UK Anne, soon after obtaining the visa or do you have other plans?

As soon as the visa has been granted. We've booked our wedding there this coming November:)

A lovely time to have a wedding, you will be able to have your pictures taken outside the church with the snow falling around you  what a wedding picture that would be to show the family back home :)

How often do you see him?

I haven't seen my girlfriend since New Years Eve, I usually go every three months but with the visa thing going on I said I wanted to save my holidays until she came here.

So next week I will be having two weeks holiday touring around the UK.

:D I know! It's not gonna be outside the church though. Civil wedding first and the church wedding follows once everything is settled there. We're planning to have the 2nd wedding here in the Philippines together with both of our families. My fiance, by the way, is 'Fil-Brit' :)

You know I've never missed my girlfriend as such because I knew she would always be there no matter how long we'd been apart, that makes a difference
    :)

We see each other everyday-- virtually. Physically, the last time we've been together was New Year 2012.

Three months! You're girlfriend is so lucky.

One of the reasons it took us quite a while is him saving up for the both of us. I'm just glad he never gives up. Keeps calling me everyday with no fail.

Oh he is Fil-Brit that's great, you sound like you have everything planned and sorted out, you will soon be together that's for sure. Filipinos especially are used to not seeing their families, my girlfriend did 12 years in Dubai and only got to see her three daughters for one month of the year. Now her kids are all degree qualified from De La Salle university and moving around the world.
I have the upmost respect for Filipinos, always willing to sacrifice their own needs for their close family members.

Thanks , Timmers. I hope all the sacrifices will be paid off when we see the visa has been granted. Just like your girlfriend's.

I always remember many years back when I was saving for my first house, when you save you appreciate it more when you actually get what you are saving for.

Like us, even now we are in contact everyday, I can count on one hand how many times I have missed Skyping her over the last seven and a half years.

This thing called love  :D
