Spoke again to DHl. I am now starting ti think that we are "being given the run-around". The story changes each time I call them.

DHL's Customer Services Number in the UK is 08442480844 and I spoke just now to a man named Tom at extension 66932 who told me that a file on the case had been opened yesterday and sent to Manila. So if that is right the first email I got was just airy persiflage and DHL had in fact done nothing at all...

I had a similar experience with TNT. Not the same issue but the similarity being the way the problem was dealt with by them. I pushed it along by phoning everywhere including Manila.

(Our problem was the wifes ZIP code which had always been used but was wrong. The parcel contained the application docs, like yours. )

I have just followed your example and the DHL hot line for their Manila office is +63 2 811 7000.

I was told that Kaye must pay 933 pesos to the courier for Customs dues. Seems reasonable.

    An update.

DHL say "delivery was rejected by the consignee".

That's because it wasn't the consignee. DHL had mistakenly addressed the label to K's cousin whom she is staying with, she was collecting small k from school and was out when they arrived. They had already been told TWICE about this mistake on their part. They have her number but had not phoned her and had not kept a record of her conversation with them informing her that she would be out. Meanwhile the "amount payable has mysteriously increased...

So I called DHL Manila and spoke to DONAR at +6381134129 and asked if I could pay the customs dues by card to stop any more nonsense.

He told me that he could not accept a foreign credit card (WHY NOT? EVERYONE ELSE DOES!!) and suggested I paid in the UK using my UK card.

So I called DHL at 0844 248 0844 and spoke to STEWART WRIGHT at extension 6816 who told me that I could not pay an overseas Customs bill in the UK.

This is now Day 8 of this complete and utter f**k up by DHL, who mis-addressed and mis-described the original parcel as explained to AMY PINCOCK of DHL UK Customer Focus at Extension 66931 who has just replied to an email I sent her five days ago saying that her "backline tracing department are looking into your query and I have sent them your email for action"

I am copying this onto my Facebook page and changing the setting to "public".

Perhaps time to use the "I will never use DHL again" strategy. :D

My employers, a global company with a work force of 80,000, may develop an enthusiasm for Fedex very shortly...

Every time that I have used DHL in either direction there has been some foul-up or other. The only reliable international courier company is FedEx It's cheaper and faster to the UK and definitely faster than DHL from the UK but I don't know which costs more in that direction. And that's bearing in mind that we don't live in Manila.

Got a call from a lady named Zoe McLoughlin-Brown at DHLs UK Complaints Department. Most apologetic.

She says she will look into it and get back to me tomorrow.
