You stated that DNA evidence is often misused and misunderstood, I would disagree with that statement 100%

If its good enough for the law of the land then its good enough for me :)

Well you are quite simply wrong Tim, it is misused and misunderstood, and the number of cases where innocent people were jailed is a lot more than five.

Tell me Tim what is DNA without going and looking it up?

I know what it is and how it is sequenced.

And the answer I will give you is not the first answer you will find on the internet, but is nevertheless a correct answer.

Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid, I had to ask the wife how to spell it, easier to pronounce than spell, my wife wanted to be a forensic officer in the Philippines police.

It is a digital code invented by nature, the pattern is composed of four nucleotides, thymine, adenine, guanine and cytosine.

The fact that it is digital means it can store information, it is fundamentally the same as a modern hard drive in a computer, it even includes error correction the same as we do in modern digital communications.

edit: late reply as I have a drunk Scotsman sitting next to me in this pub :)

It gets worse lots of public space carries drug residues you could leave a DNA and Coke trace in your Hotel room just because you touched a door handle previously impacted

Its not the point, there will be nothing ever invented that is 100% fool proof, we do still have a judge and jury, at the end of the day its up to them to look at all the evidence presented and make a verdict accordingly.

You must remember that there is more to a serious court case than just DNA evidence, DNA evidence is one of the pieces of the puzzle that has to be put together in the courtroom.

See where I used the word "context" earlier, juries often misunderstand the context of DNA because popular culture puts it on a pedestal.

Everything I am talking about here is about 'Context' that is what is determined in a court, and in court people in a jury often rely on expert testimony, and that expert testimony is often misued by both the defence and prosecution.

Too late, nice enough bloke but absolutely pished, not what I really wanted at this time of night, I was simply trying to enjoy a couple of pints after work before going home, but I went to a pub that I had only been in once before largely because the beer was cheap between 5pm and 7pm.

To look at it a far nicer pub than my normal local (my local is one level above spit and sawdust) but this one tonight while cosmetically nicer does not have the same calibre of clientele :)

Remember that jury's are given lots of guidance, DNA is probably not as misused as wrongful evidence given in court. DNA evidence is just part of the picture.

The court system in the UK is renowned around the world, DNA or no DNA, the courts here are as just and fair as anywhere else in the western world.

That's what you get for cheaper beer prices, there is nothing worst than a pished up stranger trying to make unwanted conversation with you, I've suffered the same so many damn times.

Why ur yae readin that f****** book, this is a f****** pub, I got that all the time 30 or 40 years ago.

Luckily people are more genteel these days, but the question is almost always the same except that now I am reading on a computer.

In this particular case it all started when I was asked to look up 'Still Game' on the laptop, my reply of course identified me as a fellow Scot at which point being far from home I was doomed.

Most of the punters in Orkney are English ;) :D

My daughter's mum lives a wee bit outside Kirkwall, never visited sadly.

Yep mainly divers Id guess. I went to a particular town when I was there but i cant repeat what it was called on here :) The place is famous and I went to get a photo next to the sign but alas it had been nicked.

Also called in at Kirkwall. There was a radio museum but sadly it was shut when we got there. The intoxicant was local :) I guess theres not a lot of other entertainment.

As for diving, amazing place but dangerous. One of our team perished unfortunately.
