Hi Surreydave, welcome to the forum. And hello dave bright! We are all basically in the same boat chaps. We applied and my fiancee went to the biometrics appointment on the 10th July which was a Monday. I already sent the documents before then and they arrived in Sheffield on the same day ( UK time ). We did not get any notice from them until 24th July. And it said in there that they will try to complete the process within 60 working days of the application date. So I think that whether they got the documents or not, days counting start after your application ( I think our application date is 2 weeks before the biometrics appointment) or maybe the biometrics appointment date. Thats how I understood it. :)

    Priority VISA
    Forget counting days,
    May 5th Biometrics.
    May 16th Sheffield has documents.
July 21st Email stating documents received and 60 working day processing wait.
July 21st +3 mins later, there is a problem with your VISA and it will not be completed within 60 working days.

Hello Dave Bright, I also applied last July 10 using the scanning process and I didn't got any confirmation as well like others do. And it got me worried so I emailed Sheffield yesterday and got a reply that states my application is under review awaiting for decision, something like that.

thanks for that. We put in our docs through an agency who advised that most of the visas they have done recently took about 6 weeks. Stats for May on government website have 13% of applications within 30 days and 100% within 60 days. Not sure how accurate that is. Like you say we're all in the same boat so fingers crossed we'll all get a positive outcome.

my mrs got an email to an email address she didn't even know about which was a bit weird. The agency she went through must have set one up for her as they sent her a password for it a couple of weeks back.

Hi Anna, ring the hotline in the link given to you above and they will be sending you a form to complete. You will be posting the form back to them along with the required documents.

your national insurance number will be 2 letters--followed by 6 numbers--then a single letter

    for example: AB 12 34 56 C.

Hi guys! I dont know if this is normal. But we just received our documents back. Upon looking at them, I noticed that only the original copy of my fiancee's birth certificate is missing from the compilation that I made. Apart from it, everything is here, including the photocopies. Although a letter was on the front of the pile saying the following:

    Dear Sir/Madam

    Sponsor Documents

Thank you for sending documents in support of a UK visa application. Copies of all these documents have been retained by the UK Visas and Immigration in order to assess the application and as such we are returning the original documents to you. You may be receiving these documents prior to the applicant receiving a decision on the application. This is a normal part of the process and you need to take no further action. Should we require anything further from you we will contact you via the email address you have supplied.

In due course, the applicant will receive a decision on the application.

    Yours sincerely

    UK Visas and Immigration

Obviously the copies were not kept by them. Could they have made a new set of photocopies for themselves? And why only take the original birth certificate? Got a bad feeling about this. Anyone experienced the same thing as well? Thanks :/ :(:(:(

This is normal, the documents I sent came back mixed up from how they were sent to them. I think they scan them and just send them back to you.
The cover letter is standard. What has happened with you is exactly what happened with our application. We had no other contact with the UKVI in Sheffield, now we are just patiently waiting now for the courier delivery of her passport
