Chukka Umunna's amendment to stay in the single market and customs union has been defeated by 322 votes to 101. No Conservative MPs voted against but 49 Labour MPs voted against their leader's whip and tonight Corbyn sacked the rebels from his shadow frontbench team - Catherine West, Rupa Huq, Gareth Thomas, Andy Slaughter and Ruth Cadbury whilst Daniel Zeichner has resigned from the frontbench.

All 12 Lib Dems, 4 Plaid Cymru, 1 Green and 34 Scots Nationalists and the one Independent MP joined the Labour rebels.

Fewer MPs backed Umunna’s amendment than voted against Article 50; resistance is crumbling and falling away.

It might be argued equally that PERSISTENCE is crumbling and falling away.

David Davis - we should observe how he looks today, and how he ages twenty years over the next two.

    I hate the word "gotten".

Anyway, as long as the eu fanatics are happy with their eurobarometer results, let's just ignore them and try to get the best Brexit for our country and it's people.

But ... surely you won't want to ignore THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE...?

I rather like the word "gotten". Shakespeare uses it quite a lot .

I think you're guilty of a little hyperbole: polls reflect OPINION not will :)

Tomorrow the UK government begins the two year process of withdrawing from the 1964 London Fisheries Convention which permits vessels from Ireland, Germany, Holland, France, Belgium and the UK to fish in each others' twelve mile territorial waters. It's a move that's more than endorsed by the Scottish government who've been pressing for this for some years.

    Starting to regain our sovereignty.

There's only one kind of poll that matters and that's when people mark crosses on bits of paper. Those who hold the same views as you may need reminding that:
    • The Conservatives won the 2015 General Election and that government legislated for and held the Referendum
    • Against the odds - and the pollsters - the Leave side won the Referendum
    • The Conservatives won the 2017 General Election
    • 85% of those who voted in the 2017 General Election voted for parties committed to complete withdrawal from the EU - including the Customs Union and the Single Market
    • There is no such thing as "soft Brexit", or "hard Brexit", there is only "Brexit" which is leaving the EU, the Customs Union and the Single Market. There will, however, be a two to four year transition period to avoid the "cliff edge" situation when the UK leaves on (or before) March 2019
    • The government including Europhile Hammond is committed to the full withdrawal.
    • Many of those contributing to Project Fear last year have now withdrawn or reversed their predictions. These include the CBI, major banking institutions, the London Stock Exchange, Nissan, Honda (see #DespiteBrexit thread)

You're missing the point. The government has a strong mandate to carry-out Brexit - or, so that you understand better, hard Brexit. That mandate has been built-up from three sets of results when the electorate was asked to actually vote and not merely give an opinion. Once you acknowledge and accept this, the happier you will be.
