The war on drugs was officially started by Nixon as part of his campaign rhetoric, it was a dumb cruel idea then and is a dumb cruel idea now, it has never resulted in any kind of victory or reduction in drug use in history anywhere.

As it was for Nixon and as it is for most politicians, it is a favourite of faux populist right wing authoritarians.

    Geez! :(
With so many drugs I use for Hypertension, Chronic back pains and depressions. I could get done in the Philippines. My GP always refer to my medications as “Here’s your ‘DRUGS’ Mrs! :frust: Imagine tsismosas, Marites, CCTV etc. (whatever they are called) hearing that? They will report me to the police as drug users!

simple way to end the drug problem in this country--is to stop calling it a problem. Give all registered addicts a free supply of their chosen substance on prescription from their doctor.

I wouldn't go that far, Duterte has failed, he was even addicted to fentanyle himself at one point, but his rhetoric rallied the people to vote for him, shabu is as big a problem now as when he first took office.

Failed or not! he has won where I live. Before he was elected it was like the wild west, drug gangs shooting each with the police in the middle try to sort out this **** that the previous Presidents left behind.
One of my neighbors a young man a drug pusher got plugged 3 years ago, they had a 48 hour wake next lot to my house, I could see him in his coffin and all his drug pusher mates sat round . Can't say Duterte lost. He won. Drug lords lost or losing.
Philippines need another strong leader, not the corrupt one's of the past.

I can say he lost because he has, he has won a few low level skirmishes, small battles, but not the war, even recently check how many BILLION peso, not million but BILLION peso seizures of shabu there has been, its as prevelant as ever at Street level also, didn't he say he would wipe the shabu trade out within 6 months of being originally elected? The war on drugs is just a snappy election winning catchphrase.

I can say he has won because he 's sorted out the problems near where I live. He's made a big difference. Can't say anything about other place's I don't live there.

Decriminalisation if small quantities for personal use, frees up police and court time, and no one languishes in prison sometimes for years like in the Philippines before a court date.

    yep--that for starters.
But if any addicts wish to register with their GP to receive free prescriptions for a weekly supply of drugs for their own use--then they wouldnt need to fund their need by illegal means.
Ok--the sale of Beemers would be hit--so what

Flaws in that, Heroin substitute methadone, addicts were keeping it in their mouths, spitting it into a condom, selling it to buy street heroin, its complex, far more than we can imagine, but whatever we think in all reality, and that's what we live in, drugs are becoming available in increasing quantities and far purer.
