for lots of people the legal minimum wage is an aspiration rather than an expectation. for what its worth--my income is the state pension--which is equivalent to £4 an hour--over a 40 hour week. and i count myself lucky to have it.
you have to see this from the UKVI point of view. if they let spouse and family in on a cheap visit visa--it would be no surprise if many will overstay or simply disappear.
I must say I’m very lucky to have a good post and earning around 25k a year. But I know some of my work friends who are from Asia & Africa had lots of problems and most of them had to get another job.
Yup. And I know people that have done just that. I am not impressed with them either! She even said to my wife once when she mentioned she had to do an English test that she can't be bothered with that because it's too difficult. It's people like that who are to blame for the difficulty is obtaining tourist visas. I'm still baffled how she managed to get one. She was married and pregnant at the time.
lets face it--its soo easy to disappear in this country. especially if the couple dont own a place--or stay with friends or relatives.
I think the best way is the Singh route for people who earn less than 18k. I myself have 2 options here. Give up my British citizenship or give up my job and take her on Singh route (working in Ireland or Portugal). I’m still thinking about it
Is it Portugese citizenship that you have? I'm not sure you even need the Singh route. As far as I can tell she can come to the UK on a free family permit. This is the crap way the British government treats its own citizens.
Yes Graham I hold British, Portuguese and Indian OCI Card. But as a British citizen I have to apply for a spouse visa. But if I give up my British citizenship and to give up it will cost me £145 than I can bring her on my Portuguese passport. Or I can take the Singh route
i would think--if K has portuguese citizenship--he could get wed in filis then bring her over ---save himself thousands.
I can understand why you want a visit visa now, the financial requirement doesn't take into consideration being in love with a Filipina I'm afraid. As the chaps says, worth looking for alternative employment if you can, but that's easier said than done as you already know. Good luck
I agree. Surely, as a Portuguese, she can just bring her in as the wife of a EU citizen without any need for any visas regardless of whether is is a UK citizen or not. Just use the Portuguese passport and get the permit.
As I’m getting married in HK I have just emailed British consulate in HK and see if I do get a reply anytime this week. Will let you know about it
