    best Filipino headline ever actually

FIRST FAMILY WAITS IN VAIN FOR MOPHEADS

except the President, supposedly the head of the family, wasn't there at the time. He was shagging one of his mistresses.

it was like a pre-supposer for what what was to come. We have 60 million people under us, total slaves, and we can do whatever the hell we want. Who cares about the Beatles.

And yet they are utterly adored in the Philippines, your quotes are of course true they were treated terribly, but everyone today loves them, memories there are short.

Which authoritative source supplied you with that precise bit of knowledge?

I'm not saying you are wrong it may very well have been the case but who exactly was doing the research that makes this assertion true?

    Yes thats very true..
The Beatles didnt care that it was true because they vowed never to return and they never did.
I think that other famous acts need to take a leaf from their book and make their intentions to boycott the R.P public...
The idiots that make these statements do not represent the Filipino people`s views but unfortunately they wield a lot of power in that basket case capital... Manila.

May I recommend "America's Boy" by James Hamilton Paterson!

Just minutes after the aeroplane left Filipino soil, a press statement was issued by President Marcos which absolved The Beatles of any wrongdoing.

"There was no intention on the part of The Beatles to slight the First Lady or the Government of the Republic of the Philippines."

to say that they (the Beatles) are 'utterly adored' is a way overstatement. On another thread Methersgate said that his wife hadn't even heard of them, and I wasn't surprised when he said that.

    the Beatles are western.

the Philippines is Asia. They have a different take on things to us and acts like the Beatles/Rolling Stones etc which are/were huge in the west, while they are known about in the Philippines, are/were not these massive cultural drivers in the same way there as they are here.

when I'm in Britain and I meet somebody from the Philippines and I say I know the Philippines, I've been there, they say 'really?', I just immeadiately go into a mime of the chorus of this song, 'Victims of Love' :

    VICTIMS OF LOVE

they laugh and say, 'oh yeah. Hehe. You do know us'.

if I were to do that at Kevin's Karaoke night tonight in the Rose and Crown in Dewsbury, almost nobody will have heard it before.

in the Philippines, everybody has heard it before. It is one of the most popularly sung and well known western videoke songs that there is. More well known than any Beatles song except Ob La Di Ob La Da.

You have been talking to people from the wrong era..
In the early 80`s the first thing they ALL asked after I announced I was British was did I come from Liverpool, the home of the Beatles...
Then it was Beatles this Beatles that... Then they asked me had I met any members of Air supply.
    Very tiresome.

they do like some Beatles songs, but a lot of them are too hard-edged for their sensibilities. What Filipinos like is sentimental/romantic stuff. Corny. A bit too syrupy compared to where Lennon and McCartney (mostly) wanted to be.

And I have certainly almost never met a Filipino who would have heard of Liverpool. You are lucky if they have even heard of London.

It appears from your posts in this thread and in others you want to portray the Filipino in a negative way which does the vast population of the RP an injustice!!
your quote "And I have certainly almost never met a Filipino who would have heard of Liverpool."suggests that you have assumed they wouldnt know but you never asked them!
That said I would bet if you took a sample of Brits and asked about the RP very few would be able to expand other than its near Thailand

Geography isnt a subject that has much traction in the Fils John whilst there are exceptions to every rule I have found it to be a truism that London is generally perceived to be part of the USA and that my missus still doesnt know how to drive to a local (25 miles) shopping town despite having driven there a dozen times and driven by me 20-30 times:)

Well clearly you have met a great many more Filipino's than I have whippy, however my lot adore the Beatles, and I haven't sat down at any family table in Manila where they didn't sing a Beatles track, hell I was singing with cousin Elmer and his pals at his dad's funeral with just one bloke knocking all the music out on his own beat up ancient guitar.

And yeah we would have to all be deaf not to know that they love romantic ballad's, but again most of my lot are into grunge and metal and most of them even know who the Floyd are.

My stereotypes clearly differ from yours, maybe you should vary your routine a bit as the place has a lot more variety in my opinion than you seem to perceive.

P.S. and I would have to say that after enduring vast amounts of Karaoke over there and also having seen many many local bands perform, I've never heard 'Victims of Love' and I have a good ear for tunes. I've heard so many ballads but not that one. I have though heard plenty of local bands doing covers of Freddie Aguilar's work particularly Anak.

I've noticed tat a lot of people on here make stereotypes about all Filipinos based on the ones that they, personally, have met.

It's a common thing. I probably do it myself.

True but the videoke is the second bible in my eyes and a quick flick through proves how popular The Beatles are in Phils. You aint gonna put things in there that arent popular.

    John...
I had Pharmacist`s here ask me where I was from..."London" I said.. Then one asked what was it like living in the Capital of America!!
Liverpool could be anywhere to them...All they knew back then was "Its where the Beatles came from".
I dont judge them for this at all.. If you ask 100 regular Brits where the Philippines is located, how many different continents would be amongst their answer`s?? You may be surprised!
Ask a regular Yank and look for blank expression in most cases...Ask them what is Manila and they will answer "Envelope".

This is the point Im making however part of @whipster thread "And I have certainly almost never met a Filipino who would have heard of Liverpool." it alludes to would of heard of Liverpool but have they been asked not saying they would know but you cant make an assumption that all wont know.
Yes I agree about the RP and you ask a Brit where they are, equally many Brits will perceive a Filipino lady as a Thai based on the Brits lack of knowledge
