My partner accurately identified many Filipino's in the UK including this bloke, who was a gay Filipino Brit who had lived almost all of his life in the UK (picture taken 9 years ago). Whippy I am not sure we have ever had anyone more full of sweeping statements as a member here.
Of course i dont, they're even on the beach at night. My point is I'd utilise the 1000's of hours discovering places, not sat in a videoke bar. But as i said, we are all different.
I grew up listening to The Beatles songs coz my mom loves them, especially Ringo Starr. A trip to Liverpool is definitely in order when she visits the UK. As far as the flag draping incident is concerned, not sure why they're making a big deal out of it. Our athletes would always do it yet no one has been punished. Is it because they're Filipinos and Madonna isn't? Doesn't make sense though as my expectation is that Filipinos should be more respectful of our flag.
So So you drink warm SMB with ice and wait till until the beer is cold and when the beer`s flavour has been diluted with melted ice?? Or are you a Red horse merchant? LoL. Drinking warm beer (room temp) in the UK may be acceptable with real ale or Bitter...Over here, warm SMB is a bit of a downer in my view. It takes all sorts I suppose!
I can think of quite a few .... Mt Pinatubo eruption of 1991; horrendous mudslides following heavy rain with a few hundred losing their lives (around 2002); Cebu earthquake; Yolanda; South China Sea dispute (several times). That's at least 5 and I've missed-out at least two other serious typhoons.
I've taken Asawa to Liverpool several times but never to anything Beatles relared as yet. Nearest we got was Abbey Road in London
I will only accept ice if I have absolutely no choice, and I would have imagined that you have even greater chance in the provinces that the water used for the ice is not potable. At home we stick the beer in the freezer, we usually manage to finish it before it is solid
The difference being that they are not wearing it as all or part of a uniform!!In this instance Madonna had it as a cloak thats why there is a perception that it disrespected the flag!
No, it wasn't a cloak. A lot of my friends watched the show and it wasn't part of her costume. They had the flag and what she did was drape it around her shoulders, similar to what athletes would do. And really, our government should start focusing on the real issues rather than this. They always complain about foreigners disrespecting a lot of things but it's not like they are being respectful of our culture and the Filipinos by serving their personal interests.
Would love to see Liverpool with my mom and see her reaction when she sees anything Beatles related. I bet she will have tons of fun. I remember there's a local channel that would show their music videos, always on a Sunday afternoon. I know coz this was when we would start ironing out our school uniforms in preparation for the school week!
I only drink occasionally in certain establishments that own Polar frost SMB coolers.. I dont buy beer and ice from Sari sari stores for the reasons you mention!
How you live is often a feature of time available two weeks very diferent from 6 months 10 years If your in far flung places then very often the bar plus videoki may be the only social choice that locals have, off piste travel can be interesting or not depending what floats your boat 12 hours of dark and no net or cable changes the reality
What she did with the flag was an obvious audience pleaser, the authorities should have seen that there was no offence intended and let it go.
Not sure about Pinutabo. It was a big story. But I don't think it made front page lead or 1st item on the television news. The EDSA 'revolution' definitely did, and Yolanda definitely did. Although I was in the Philippines at the time, I still knew it was the biggest Pinas international news story of my adult life. I WAS in the UK at the time of the Bohol earthquake a few weeks before, and that wasn't a big story at all. It was buried on the inside pages. The 2010 Manila bus hijack would have got much greater coverage had it not clashed with the discovery of the Chilean miners on the same day. The South China sea dispute has not been a really big story up to now at all.
There were videos on the tele of the bleedin American's withdrawing their aircraft from Clark as they panicked about them getting damaged by volcanic fallout. For gods sake it was one of the biggest volcanic events of the last hundred years, not going to get front page?
