This should keep Alex Salmond quiet for a good while. :D

    Credit to Gordon Brown?

According to the BBC, it's all over: Scotland votes no in spite of the fact that neither Edinburgh nor Glasgow have announced their results. The BBC says the projected final result is 55% to 45% to the Noes. Salmond didn't go to the Aberdeen City count as planned (it voted no) but the SNP say he's saving himself for the "victory speech" in Edinburgh. Ha!

Much as I agree with you that Salmond should be muted by the result, I fear he won't be and will be demanding a re-run of the referendum before too long.

Brown certainly ignited the No campaign and I've not known him make such passionate speeches as he has over the last couple of weeks. Credit to him. But the real credit must go to the many Scots who realised that all Salmond had to offer was a dream and voted No.

Betfair predicted the NO vote a few days ago by paying out to 'NO' punters!

Indeed. Currently at $1.65 / Php 72.48 - up by over 2 cents and 2 Pesos on the week.

Edinburgh votes No - 61.1% : 39.9% - which is a bit of a shock as it was expected to be overwhelmingly in favour of independence.

Absolutely not! The Scots already have £1,623 per head more spent on them by the UK tax-payer than anyone else in the UK. Maybe when Salmond stops charging English students to study at Scottish universities - and only English students, those from Scotland and elsewhere in the EU study for free. Maybe when Scottish MPs are prevented from voting on Bills that do not affect their electorate (England/Wales-only Bills).

You are doing the youth of Scotland a disservice, the discussions and opinions of those 16 year old that I heard speak, who remember have the right to marry at that age in Scotland, were refreshing and very considered.

Which is all very well but 16 and 17 year-olds do not vote at General, local or European elections in Scotland or anywhere else in the UK. Salmond believed he could improve his chances by extending the franchise to younger, more impressionable people. And let's not forget the inescapable fact that this was an exercise in minority politics.

It was an issue that they would have had to live with for much longer than many, you may well be right as to the motives but I do not believe it was an inherently bad thing in this particular case.
