I would like to know from other members the little things that have occurred in their lives that have made them feel like they are getting older. Some of the things for me are listed below; 1. Switching from radio 1 to radio 2 2. Making little noises when I rise from the armchair 3. Obsession with the latest news 4. Moaning about younger peoples behaviour 5. The jeepney setting off before I have got in properly 6. Having to get up at night for a pee Suppose I should start worrying when I don't get up for a pee LOL I've found that I'm getting more like my dad, I don't know if that is good or bad. I'm looking forward to some interesting posts.
1. Loss of strength. This really concerns me, and what it really is, I suspect, is loss of fitness due to lack of exercise. The solution is obvious, of course. Where getting old comes into it is that failing to exercise carries a bigger penalty. 2.Tendency to be quite happy to stay at home rather than go out. 3. Grim determination to resist the signs of aging . 4. Alarming tendency to resemble my father.
Need glasses for reading and close up work. Didn't when I was younger! Hairline receding and greying.
I'm 37 and I've noticed a few things recently. I've started getting annoyed with some of the funky house music Joy likes to listen to (DJ JuicyM and stuff like that), weird considering it is my generation that was doing the whole acid house thing, plus I do like a lot of hip hop/R&B, but some of this newer stuff eh. I've found some women attractive who are old enough to be my daughter!!! This one bothers me a bit actually My friends are all getting grey hairs. I'm not, but I am going bald
Yeah, I need the bins now, was at Boots last Saturday, £350 for varifocals and £180 for safety glasses, even with glasses now I still have to use a magnifying glass when reading a small micrometer, something I try to hide when I'm on site working. I'm okay on the hair front but the memory is a definite problem. Had a number 2 before the opticians last week, only to find I should have had a number 3 as I forgot how short a number 2 is LOL.
I think the music thing is a definite gauge if the music is starting to bug you, I think you're heading for radio 2 if you're not already there. About the young ladies, I suspect this is prevalent amongst most men, the answer to that one is, stop taking your daughter to school LOL I think grey hair and going bald really suits some chaps but I do feel for the ones who are not comfortable with it. Maybe one of our female members can give us their opinion on bald men and give a few words of comfort. We don't all have the deep pockets of Mr Rooney to have something done about it.
If you need a magnifying glass and you bought varifocals they have not put enough addition in the lower portion of the lens. I wouldn't go to Boots for glasses, I'd go ASDA, £50, even on high prescriptions
I have been very lucky as I still have a full head of hair and greyed late. But I think it hits you harder when the changes do happen.
I paid for the safety glasses with a company credit card in all fairness, its the first pair I've bought with them. I had a letter stating they would pay for an eye test and any reasonable cost so I'm hoping they don't mind. I sort of bought the mid range glasses with the same lenses as my regular glasses, the first frames I was shown and the cheapest were the equivalent of Elvis, Deirdre Barlow or Dennis Taylor specs so I couldn't bring myself to have a pair of those. I think its probably law or certainly the norm for the employer to contribute to safety glasses and eye test, should be if its not the case.
Completely bald looks good too, I walked into work on Monday sporting my number 2 and everyone laughed, a few days has passed and its now the norm, they're use to it already.
I always remember my Dad using, I think it was called Grecian 2000, looked a right mess. Some men that I see with grey hair, I cant see them having any other colour. I think the worst thing a guy can do if he's going bald is to have the Bobby Charlton comb over, don't you think?
That video portrays the infamous comb over absolutely perfectly, good old Rab C Nesbitt long may he reign LOL
Off topic, but on the question of glasses, take a day's stop over in Hong Kong and buy them there. Miles cheaper and better than in the UK - most Cantonese people are myopic, just as most Filipinos are astigmatic... they know what they are about and because competition is stiff they won't rip you off.
Must admit, had to look up a couple of words there I was always under the impression that Filipinos were renowned for rarely having the need for glasses and that most have 20/20 vision. Having said that, it was my girl who told me that and not long after she was sporting reading glasses for the computer. Hong Kong the place for everything, " Rolex copy mister" LOL always loved the bars in and around Nathan rd. Hong Kong is the only place I have been to in the world that looks the same on telly as it does when you are actually there.
My wife has glasses. She didn't before she came here to the UK, but for distance. She took advantage of the free eye test here.
