I paid a lot of money for varifocals, a couple of years ago. I regret the outlay now. I kept misjudging distances, especially steps on stair runs. So I abandoned them. I have heard many people say the same.

Yep it can take time to get used to them, I've not been wearing them long but had no problems adapting. Just got some progressives last week. They have a new coating which blocks blue light, supposedly not good light which eminates from things like computer screens, phone screens and tablets.

They're fine if you just want readers and your prescription is the same in both eyes. Should you prescription be different in both eyes you could break the bank and spend 2 quid then swap the lens :)

Nice tip. Except the pound shop is everything for £1.20 here. I kid you not. :D

I can fully understand that, I'm on maybe my fourth pair now but they do take some getting use to, I forced myself to get use to them because they were so expensive LOL.

Even though I'm on the fourth pair I am still not 100% comfortable with them, especially when driving, switching from mirrors to distance as you have to do.

I really miss my varifocals, felt weird at first but I adapted quickly, I would say that though as I only had to use them for driving really, my sight is fine otherwise, the main benefit for me was a glance down and the dash was in focus look back up and everything long range was instantly in focus.

For my camera's my sight is still well within the diopter adjustment available on the eyepiece.

What kind of glasses do you wear now?

I just stick to a reasonably priced off the peg pair from boots the opticians for reading. My distance sight is still not too bad. I cant trust myself to walk down the stairs in varifocals.

I wish I just needed them for reading, I find it a real pain having to wear them.

I renewed my offshore survival certificate not long ago and found it quite a frightening experience in the swimming pool as I couldn't wear my specs, everything blurred as hell. Before I entered the pool are I had to put my locker key on the last peg of the key cabinet so I could easily find it when leaving the pool LOL.

What would happen if we crashed in the helicopter and I lost my specs, Roy Orbison job I think LOL

I did my last offshore survival refresher in 2005, in Liverpool.

I got a pair of distance specs made just for driving one time when I was back in the Phils, I don't need glasses for the distance I work at from monitors (software developer) and I just have a cheap pair of readers for reading a magazine for instance.

Do you not wear anti glare or something similar if you are staring at a pc monitor all day?
