Some posters go on ad nauseam simply to prevent the topic being swamped by one viewpoint because of lack of opposition, but essentially it is that swamping of the voice of this place that resulted in the current levels of rebuttal.

Been a while since I was up in the Lakes, in those days it was down in the Lakes :) it is a very beautiful part of the world and I always enjoyed it.

I am guessing you are near Windermere?

You're lucky to be getting a signal :D particularly if it is wet :D

Yep always had fond memories of past visits here.

I've heard more than a few melodic Scot voices today. Was actually amazed by the amounts of Asians here, mainly Chinese. A lot of information signs are translated into Chinese.

About 50 minutes (B roads) north to Ullswater.

My phone is currently a hotspot for 3 connections! All streaming ok surprisingly on 3G.

I used to have a lot of fun on those roads Paul :)

And back in 2007 Ana and I met a good few Filipinos in Keswick, there was quite a strong community there.

I quite agree with Dave - and Paul, Oss and a few others, hence I repeat my call to ban all politics on this site. Given the level of abuse and personal attacks, it is fast becoming a reincarnation of the Dirty Kitchen which Sean had the very good sense to close after a few short weeks.

Ah yet more revisionist history, the DK ran from April 4 2011 till Jan 6th 2014, and you wonder why people get upset at your threads.

Sounds like great family fun. The Lake District is a beautiful part of the country, even if the weather can be a bit unkind.

I say all those in favour of closing political threads simply don't respond. Those that then post political threads will have small return for their effort and they too may realise that the forum has other things to offer. In turn we may get more threads relating to what the forum is actually about. That would be refreshing.

Great roads for bikes too. My last trips here were with mates thrashing round some of the fantastic roads here.

Yes seen one or two filipinos today but boy the Chinese were out in force. I can only assume there is some tourism drive going on over there.

Revisionist history? I thought its life was considerably shorter. No matter, it has been reborn as the Politics section with a strong bias for socialist/hard-left ideology.

I will be taking Paul's advice.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Those that aren't interested in the political threads already avoid them. It only takes 2 passionate stalwarts on either side of the political divide to stretch the politics threads out indefinitely.

Oh yes revisionist history, you were posting there from almost the day you arrived here in August 2012 your first thread in the DK was a rant about the Olympics, in August 2012.

Contrary to what people might imagine for a long time our Dirty Kitchen was very dull the rants were nothing like the rants of today on the public forums, really tame by modern standards, the worst of them were around members that had arrived here as refugees from elsewhere (other forums) G and U and S and M were constantly fighting but eventually they all got fed up, I was sad to see G leave he was a decent bloke.

edit: eventually J and M drove us to close it, because they both broke the rules because information other than metadata leaked from the Black Hole, J was not banned for that episode that came much later.
