in my case--there was no way i could meet the earnings requirement from my income--so i had to go the savings route. the only way i could do that was to sell my house--bank the sale proceeds for 6 months minimum--and rent a place for a while. it worked.

He is in a similar situation, he is renting though but also cannot make the requirement from his income.

How much savings would he need to sponsor me and 2 children? He would need to have that amount untouched in the bank for 6 months?

heres a link to the sponsorship appendix

    https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/270484/VAF4A-Appendix2.pdf

the earnings requirement for spouse + 2 dependant kids is £24,800 p a before tax.

in the absence of ANY income--the savings requirement is 2.5 times that--plus £16,000 threshold.

    so--£62,000 plus £16,000= £78,000

a gross income of--say--£10,000 would reduce that savings figure by £25,000.

then there is the question of suitable accommodation for you and your kids.

My goodness! And you think the surinder singh method would be more difficult than finding all that money?

where theres a will theres a way. its possible the sponsor may have access to "family " money--a future inheritance for instance. so long as its not just a loan. but needs to be in an instant access a/c for 6 months prior to visa application.

lots of us have looked into surinder singh--but--in my opinion--its just a pipe-dream.

i think so. once you are here--on a spouse visa--you can start work straight away---do you have work skills that employers want ?

yes I understand. and especially with my 2 young children I want to make the best decision. We would like to get married August 2017.

I have my degree in management from the University of london and I complete my masters in marketing this december from heriot watt university. so hopefully I can get a good job once up there.

If we marry next August, how soon can I apply for the spouse visa?

you can apply straight away--subject to the 6 month rule for any savings or income of the sponsor.

honestly we only looked at his income. never thought we could use savings..so now I will find out about inheritance or maybe his family may give a gift of the money who knows. we never explored that avenue.

He doesn't have that kind of money but maybe family can help. It's worth looking into I think

yes. a fiancee visa ( now referred to as settlement-marriage )--is valid for 6 months from the start date. in that time you travel to the UK--give notice to marry--get married--then apply for Further Leave to Remain before the 6 months is up.
